Thanks so much katiedidit1.
So who do we give money to that won't spend it on new office space or on a condom program in Africa. I want my cash to go right to these people. I fear my red cross money went down the toilet.
My money went to Operation Blessing.

Before anyone makes a generic donation to either the Red Cross or Salvation Army, may I please make a pitch for specifically earmarking your donations for their shelters in Central Louisiana where 10,000 "refugee" (as they call themselves) families are being housed on a long-term basis? Here are the addresses of the chapters nearest these shelters:
Salvation Army
620 Beauregard Street
Alexandria, LA 71301
318-442-0445
and
American Red Cross
Central Louisiana Chapter
1808 Jackson Street
Alexandria, LA 71301
318-442-6621
The families in these shelters are being absorbed into our communities. We have 1,000 new children in our local school system who don't have public school uniforms or classroom supplies to bring on their first day because, in Louisiana, parents are expected to provide these items at their own expense. When the first families fled the southern parishes for Alexandria, they thought they wouldn't be gone for more than a few days and left these vital items at home where they are now submerged under several feet of water. These refugees are now being joined by new busloads of evacuees from the New Orleans Superdome and Convention Center who are arriving with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
If you would like to ship supplies to help these kids adjust to a new life, here is a local public school collecting donations:
Rosenthal Montessori Elementary School
1951 Monroe Street
Alexandria, LA 71301
318-442-5791
On another note, the local hospital that caters to the poor and uninsured is serving so many extra meals that the kitchen doesn't have enough utensils and seasoning to go around. A request has been made for large slotted serving spoons and ladles:
Huey P. Long Medical Center
PO Box 5352
Pineville, LA 71361-5352
(318) 448-0811
Thanks for caring and for your support!
