President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Is that a pair of vintage Gloria Vanderbilt jeans that he's wearing?

That guy was out of control. I think he's scared because he knows that Bush will handle this masterfully and show great leadership.

They're still angry about his handling of 9-11 and the Florida hurricanes, he looked too Presidential.

It's probably "media poker." I'll see you a photo of a dead body, and raise you a photo of two dead bodies. (I've noticed CNN has show a couple dead bodies too.)

Personally, I really don't have a problem with them showing dead bodies, because that's what is happening and I don't really believe in bridling the press from showing reality.

What I do have a problem with is the attitude I'm hearing from all the reporters, Fox reporters included, it's a kind of "holier than thou" attitude, I can't really put my finger on it. It might just be frustration at seeing so much suffering, so I'm chalking up to that right now.

But I keep thinking, quit talking about it guys and go get those folks some water (also today they keep talking about people don't have water, but everyone I've seen has some sort of bottle in their hand, some even have Gatorade, so supplies are getting to them.) So when you tell me people don't have water, and I see them walking with water, you've gone from reporting to sensationalizing.

Last time I went to NO, I stayed at that Ritz. That was a couple of years ago. Come to find out, here on FR even, that I'm wealthy! Cool.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Wal-Mart said Tuesday that it closed more than 120 stores due to Hurricane Katrina while the world's largest retailer and some of its biggest rivals donated money and supplies to residents in affected areas along the Gulf Coast states.

Wal-Mart Stores (Research) said it would donate $1 million to the Salvation Army for relief assistance such as meals for victims and emergency and rescue personnel. ...

I can say that CNN is reporting lies because I am LISTENING to them.

This is NOT George Bush's fault -- and they are LYING to make that a fact.

As for that 'poor' woman at the Ritz Carlton, why didn't SHE leave? This storm was headed for the Gulf of Mexicon since LAST WEEK.

She had plenty of time to get out -- and the money to do it.

"Hey, I don't have a lower opinion of New Orleanians because of this."

I spoke to my friend in Luling, LA (30 miles from downtown NO) this morning and she expressed concern about the very thing you mentioned. I assured her that any thinking person knows the looters aren't representative of the people of New Orleans.

Perhaps it is Jackson County rather than the City of Jackson. Jackson County is one of the Coastal counties and was very hard hit by the hurricane. If I can help in any way, I'll be happy to try. I have phone, cell phone, and internet service.

I'm sure I saw it on one of the threads, just not sure where, but wasn't there a place to check for the military stationed and living in NO? My husband (Navy) says he heard there are 50% of the Navy personnel not accounted for from NO. Would like to give him that info if I could. Thank you.

By CNN reporting that there have been no aid workings at the Convention Center, and that people were basically dumped there, they are reporting on the ineptness of the local government. This crisis at the center is not a federal problem yet, but if we find out that FEMA had been alerted of this situation and did nothing, then it would be. I prefer the "real" reporting on CNN at this moment, as opposed to Sehp's everything is becoming hunky dory attitude as he closed his most recent segment... Note I am not looking on any of this from the blame game standpoint, but wanting to know where people are really in crisis.

"Shermy, didn't we hear before the storm that the NO PD sent their people home?"

And they had to remain in the city.

But remember the big flood came a day later. Still, as deployed, many could be lost/isolated.
