Countering the commonly held notion that Americans who dont have health insurance cant afford it, the Census Bureau reports that nearly one-third of those without insurance live in households with an annual income of $50,000 or more.
About 16 million Americans in $50,000-plus households more than 13 percent of the total lack insurance, as do 8 million earning more than $75,000 a year. The number of uninsured people in $75,000-plus households actually went up by 114 percent over a recent 9-year period, while those in households with incomes under $25,000 fell by 17 percent.
The new Census Bureau report also reveals:
* About 14 million uninsured adults and children are currently eligible for government medical coverage, such as Medicaid, but have not enrolled in any program.
* The parents of 5 million eligible children have failed to enroll them.
* For people who lack insurance for a period of time, about 75 percent are without it for less than a year.
* 11.8 million of the uninsured are foreign-born, and 9.5 million of those are non-citizens.

This is just further evidence that everything the left says is a lie.

I wish NewsMax had provided a link to the Census Bureau report; I'd like to see it.

I'm in the insurance business in Maine, which according to the libs is one of the most underinsured states in the country. Fifty percent of the people I speak with on an annual basis can't afford health coverage for their families... because they have a couple of brand new cars, or a new boat, or a (fill in the blank).

I don't get the point of this article. It says most (70%) of uninsured people are in that situation because they can't afford insurance. Not really surprising to me.

When both of my children were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, we were deluged with letters from the local county health department telling us we may qualify to have some or all of the diabetes related stuff paid for. Letter after letter and finally a phone call. They really wanted to get us signed up so as to bump up their numbers of people who "need health care" because they can't afford to buy insurance.
I assumed that one had to be poverty stricken to qualify. Nope. A family of four could earn $40K to get the goodies. Made me sick.

70% don't want to PAY for insurance.....EVERYONE can afford insurance, except the destitute.....it's a matter of priorities.

I'm one of the voluntarily-uninsured in the $75k/yr plus category. Why the heck should I pool insurance costs with homosexuals, the elderly, and people stupid enough to require safety warnings on hammers?

You know, they ask if you have health insurance but they never ever ask, is it by choice? I had COBRA and it cost about $9000 per year for my wife and myself. When it expired I went looking for health insurance and since my wife has a chronic condition they all refused to even consider her for coverage.
Now I have arrangements with Doctors to pay cash for services rendered and I get her drugs from Canada. My average annual cost is about $3000.
Basically health insurance is gambling. You are betting you are going to need treatment and the insurance company is betting you aren't. Who do you think the odds favor? The possibility of you coming out ahead is orders of magnitudes greater in a las Vegas casino than it is with health insurance.

EXACTLY!! As a medical billing service I see a lot of this, parents both working and children are placed on medicaid.

I believe it.
I'd also like to see the number of uninsured under the age of 30 who work full-time and ELECT not to have health coverage from their employer, so they'll have more money to spend on clothing, iPods, and booze.

Ain't it the truth. I've saved, by my estimate, about $50k over the past 10 years by not buying health insurance.

Am I reading this right ?
45 million minus
16 million minus
8 million minus
14 million equal
7 million actually not insured ? and not insured doesn't mean no health care.
7 million is what ? 2 percent of the population ?
Pretty soon, the RAT mantra will go from "no insurance" to "Inadequate insurance".

Insurance is making less and less sense. I'm forking out three times what I did five years ago, and I'm getting less coverage. I'm nearly to the point that it would make more sense to just bank the monthly payment in a personal account and take care of myself. Granted, it's a crap shoot, but can I really trust an "Insurance" company if I'm in dire straits and need them? Probably not. They'd sooner crap on me and find a loophole out than give me what I deserved.
The medical system is all but broken in this country. Go ahead and let Hillary nationalize it. Ever since the government got involved, it's been shit anyway.
