Russia offers help to U.S. after deadly hurricane
Novosti ^

Posted on 08/30/2005 6:33:30 PM PDT by jmc1969

Russia is ready to assist the United States in dealing with the damage caused by hurricane Katrina, which has taken 68 lives so far and left behind a tremendous amount of devastation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a message to U.S. President George Bush Tuesday.

"Russia deeply sympathizes with Americans, who faced a disaster of such a colossal scale, and is ready to offer necessary assistance," Putin said.

Putin asked Bush to extend his condolences to families and relatives of those killed in the disaster.

"Accept my sincere words of regret in connection with the natural calamity in the USA. I know that hurricane Katrina, which swept the southeast coast of the country, resulted in deaths, left tens of thousands of Americans without roofs over their heads, and caused substantial damage to the region's economy," the message said.

" I'd kick the friggin UN out of NY, and tell the rest of the World to go away."

To hell with that. As much as we've given to them over the decades, they should be providing as much assistance as possible to Louisiana and Mississippi and we should accept it.

I'll second your thanks to Putin.

I believe Japan has offered oil from their reserves to help with the shortfall until our refineries are back online.

Putin has class. He made a generous offer befitting his country's place in the world. Russia has the grace of a superpower. Many thanks from an American citizen.

Ditto here, Putin , despite all odds between our countries, showed more class and my hat is off to him.

Where are the French, Germans, MEXICANS and all the other so called "friends" in time of need. Canadians,...anybody out there?!

Thought so.....

When the Checen Muslims killed the the Russian children in their attack on the school, I sent the Russian embassy a donation for the victims courtesy of a list of instructions that were posted to this forum. I hope many of you did the same, as Russia is a proud and cultured country which we should be honored to count among our friends.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

No country has ever lifted a thing for this country.

'Cause we always turn them down. Read some of the comments in this thread. A lot of people are pretty arrogant about refusing any help offered.

Sometimes people really do mean they are sorry when they see someone else in pain. I think its nice that these countries offer condolences. I appreciate it.

Now, how long will it be before someone tries to take advantage of our distraction?

I think it's time for the United States to suspend all foreign aid until further notice.

Russia was not a "Socialist" country. It was Communist, as is Cuba, China and others.

USSR... ( Union of Soviet Socialist Republcs )
Just sayin'..

the people of Iran are wonderful

I don't know that firsthand, only what I have read and now what you have said. I hope this is so.
I was surprised at it being an "official statement".

"Yes, I'm becoming an isolationist."

You're not the only one! We Isolationists need to band together and...Oh, wait. *Scratches Head* What can Isolationists do? I mean, we can't very well be seen together in groups of any number, can we? ;)

I totally understand your sentiment. I've been for pulling up the drawbridge for years, now. I can pretty much support myself on my meager farming endeavors. A country like America couldn't? With all of her skilled and talented citizens? Yeah, right. *Rolleyes*

Yeah, the "official" part's hard for me too. The people, yes. The Iranian people are great -- but official - I know what you mean... it's strange.
