Seeing what we want to see [Able Danger: “ ...high-flying facts have fallen to ground”]
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 26, 2005 | By Terry McDermott

Posted on 08/26/2005 4:57:25 AM PDT by johnny7

.IN THE NEVER-ENDING effort to find someone — anyone — to blame for Sept. 11, the latest scrum involves claims by an ambitious congressman about a secret Defense Department unit pursuing a pilot program in data mining. Data mining is a technique in which huge databases are fed into powerful computers that sift them looking for links. It's a technology that holds vast promise, but its main usefulness to date seems to be giving mortgage lenders the ability to find out how much you still owe on your house.

Data mining can also help advertisers figure out what the true circulation figures for the Los Angeles Times really are.

Note that the LAT is part of the Tribune Group, and their most noteworthy contribution to the periodicals industry over the last 5 years has been to mis-state circulation figures reported to advertisers.

As opposed to burying your head in the sand which is what the liberal MSM are doing on this story. Wait till the congressional committees start their own investigations. Then we will see who is seeing what they want to see!

What an idiot Terry must be. "Ambitious Congressman"

Trying to shed some light on methods that could prevent another attack..if that's being ambitious, then I'm all for it.

If ambition is holding government accountable, then I'm for it.

If ambition is staking a 20 year career on the work (and word)of a few great soldiers, then I'm for it.

If ambition is going public to the American people when no action is taken by the government, then God bless him, I'm for it.

A long chain of supposition and innuendo produces an ironclad assesment. LASlimes SOP.

You know, I get mad when I hear the Democrats once again raising the bar, and we fall for it.

Although it is my belief that Able Danger had info on Atta, it is only my belief without solid proof.

But AD absolutely had information about Al Qaeda terrorists living in our midst as part of the Brooklyn group. And the Clinton administration did nothing.

This is so transparent. They'll take the flimsiest of allegations and turn it into an endless witch hunt if it involves a member of the GOP. Seeing how this reflects poorly on the Clintonistas, they're trying to kill this story by any and all means. Where's all the talk about the "seriousness of the allegation" and "thrust of the story".....hmmmm?

The mission of the 911 Cover-up Committee -- to cover up the cover up -- may be about ready to crash.

This morning, news reveals that former FBI director Tenet is now under scrutiny.

The ole Clinton laundering machine may have run out of detergent, and just relying on the spin cycle may not be quite enough.

911 needs Febreze treatment to remove the stench from the tainted Committee. The American public deserves a full, complete, non-partisan, independent investigation.

[Look at the FR threads when the membership of the 9-11 Committee was announced. Even then, there was an outrage of Gorelick being on the committee due to a conflict of interest.]

You may want to fact check this account of Atta's past, particularly the period in Europe.

I know nothing about Able Danger other than what I've read, so I can't speak with authority on what the program uncovered about Atta, or when. But...

Then shut up and wait for the facts Terry.

I don't think so. He was Egyptian, but I don't know if he had any involvement w/ Israel.

Seeing how hot Rep Weldon was yesterday, I can only conclude that the elite are trying to induce a stroke, rendering Weldon incapable of holding what otherwise promise to be riveting hearings on CSPAN.
