Police suspect tampering in Northwest jet's deflated tires

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Police said they believe two tires may have been tampered with on a Northwest Airlines Boeing 757, an incident perhaps related to the nearly week-old mechanics strike against the nation's fourth-largest carrier.

On Wednesday, Northwest employees discovered finding two landing gear tires deflated on a 757-200 aircraft during a preflight inspection at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, the airline said in a statement.

Northwest said no other damage was reported.

The Maryland Transportation Authority Police is investigating the tire deflation as a crime, a spokeswoman said.

"Based on information and evidence collected at the scene, the police believe that the plane was illegally tampered with," Cpl. Pam Thorne said.

The plane arrived at BWI Airport at 6 p.m. ET Tuesday and later was rolled to a holding area. At 11 a.m. Wednesday, two tires seemed to have low air pressure during a routine visual inspection, Thorne said.

I would say that about 200 charges of attempted murder should be filed if the culprits are found.....

Tell the union that they are about to be declared a terrorist organization if that stuff happens one more time.

It's terrible to think union members would jeopardize the safety of fellow workers (and unionists) and innocent customers. Cult-like.

Im gonna guess union mug....or an arab-american disgrutled employee, who the media will later deem not to be a terrorist but just a stressed out father who happens to be named muhammed and also just happens to have visited a terrorist training site by accident.

Yep. No excuse. This is somewhat reminiscent to the ATC strike with Ronaldus Maximus. Being union is no excuse AT ALL for endangering the public.

The FBI needs to find whoever did this, arrest him/her/them, and throw ALL the books at them.

Your comment:

What is with some of you???? There is NO evidence at all that this was caused by an intentional act by anyone for any reason.

Shows that you have no idea of what you are talking about or have no experience with union strike tactics.

Labor unions have a long history of sabotage, murder, and conspiracy.

In the Northwest Airlines case, the mechanic unions themselves recently said:

In Detroit, mechanics say they'd go down fighting"

"Vice President Dennis Sutton warned members to stay out of trouble but also informed them that the union has bail money set aside if anyone is arrested and jailed."

You're right.  Although, at this time, there isn't any solid proof, I would call it a safe bet that this was a union tactic.

Whatever number of seats are on that aircraft needs to be the number of attempted murder charges. PERIOD.

The mechanics have been on strike since Saturday. How did they get near the airplane to mess with the tires?

They qualified as terrorists long before this. Union thuggery is legendary across the nation.

I am sure that no union member would do a thing like this. My guess is, This is a conspiracy by the the right wing media to smear all good union members. Yep that's it! The right wing media. Yeah sure! /sarcasm

A backlog of repairs is keeping several Northwest Airlines jets on the ground, which could be a sign the airline is facing trouble because of the mechanics strike.

WCCO-TV obtained the minimum equipment list, or MEL, for Northwest Airlines. It shows how many problems have to be fixed on Northwest's planes.

Northwest blames the high number of items on the MEL on a mechanic slowdown before the strike deadline.

Union mechanics purposely did not repair aircraft in anticipation of the strike endangering traveler saftety.

Go back and read the post I was referring too.... oh wait you can't... it was pulled because it was extremely over the top. Accusing these strikers of attempted murder is a serious accusation that requires proof. Yes, unions have done all sorts of criminal things, but to claim these guys don't have any reverence for life is reprehensible unless you have evidence.

Flat tires FIVE days after strikers stopped working on the plane is not enough to accuse someone of murder.

From experience at work yesterday and today, it appears that on-time performance has improved dramatically from Friday-Tuesday. Those days weren't a total disaster, but from what I've seen Northwest appears to be operating very close to normal now (the past two days).
