PARENTS of soldiers killed in Iraq plan to follow President George W. Bush around the country in the coming months, hoping to generate nationwide anti-war sentiment after camping out at his Texas ranch.
Through much of August, Cindy Sheehan, who lost her son in Iraq, has stationed herself with other protesters outside Bush's Crawford ranch, garnering international media coverage at a time when more than 1800 US military have died in the the Iraq conflict. Sue Niederer, who with Ms Sheehan and other families of dead soldiers founded "Gold Star Families for Peace", today vowed to pursue the president with her anti-war message.
"We are going to be continuously on Mr Bush and make him understand we are not going away. We are very, very steadfast in what we are doing," said the 56-year-old housewife, real estate agent and substitute teacher from Hopewell, New Jersey.
Ms Niederer, whose 24-year-old son Seth Dvorin died in Iskandariya, Iraq, on February 3, 2004, said she and others plan to travel to wherever Mr Bush will be speaking.
Anti-war groups kept the pressure on the president this week as he made speeches in Utah and Idaho, where he promised that US troops would remain in Iraq to complete their job to honour those who already died there - a logic Ms Niederer disputed.
"You are dishonouring the soldiers, you are not honouring them," she said of Mr Bush's speech.
"Given the reasons for why we went into this war, why have their deaths not been in vain?" she said, referring to Mr Bush's now disproved pre-war assertion in 2003 that Iraq might have stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction.
Ms Sheehan, the Vacaville, California, mother whose son Casey was killed in combat in Iraq, has become the centre of the anti-war effort by camping out near Mr Bush's ranch and demanding to meet face-to-face with the president.
She plans to speak in Brunswick, Maine, in September and in Brooklyn, New York, in October.
After Mr Bush ends his Crawford stay at the end of August, the anti-war families are also considering crisscrossing America in buses in hopes of building a national protest movement similar to that seen during the Vietnam War, when public sentiment against the war contributed to the eventual US withdrawal.
"This is Vietnam No.2. As we are seeing in the polls, the American people are beginning to realise this war was created on lies, deceit and deception," Ms Niederer said.
A majority of the US public doubts the United States will win the war in Iraq and believes the Bush administration deliberately misled Americans over Iraq's weapons capabilities, according to a July 27 USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll.
It was the first poll to find that more than half of Americans - 51 per cent - believed the administration was deliberately misleading when it asserted that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
Looks like the Dems have come up with there 2006 campaign startegy. The Republicans should have huge smiles on their faces. Anybody remember George McGovern. -:)
I bet you that most of those protestors don't have or did have anyone serving in Iraq.
Oh my god...so now they are going to stalk him.
And we are going to stalk THEM.
I'd like to see the "Gold Star Families for Appeasement" try to keep up with Air Force 1!
Cool...all of the plane/train/bus tickets and several months worth of moonbat feed can't be anything but good for the economy...
Groups such as NION, CodePink, ANSWER, and UFPJ as well as Communist and Islamofascist groups probably will also join these caravans to try to up the numbers. Freepers and ProtestWarriors will be needed to counter these hate-America marxists and islamofascist sympathisers.
When is this going to end....this stuff is insane.
"When is this going to end..."
November 4, 2008.
They are going to find themselves on the wrong side of the Secret Service.
Probably Jan 21, 2009
Truly a sad spectacle. Apparently, Soros has enough money to buy the relatives of war dead.
There are 80,000 troops in Iraq. 1800 have been killed in action. Are there 3,600 parents (assuming two per fallen soldier) packing into Crawford to profit from the death of their children? No, there are not. Surely there are more than Cindy. Not many more though.
Note to self ... Invest in that straight jacket company asap.
It's the resurrection of the VVAW. I've been predicting it since the runup to military action in Iraq. The numbers this time around are just as few, but the media is reporting on it more and more to make them seem like a "movement" instead of a drunken lurch.
How many members are in the Gold Star Families? Anyone know? Didn't that group of WTC mothers against the war that the media was orgasming over turn out to have only like two members?
"It is a replay of the shenanigans pulled during the Vietnam War"
So, as these monsters stalk the President and try to lose this war they themselves must be stalked. As they try to get their sick message through to the American people, so must true patriots get the correct message through to the American people.
Never again, what happened here at home during Vietnam, never again!
