Yucca Flats NOW!
Eeek.
Katie Larson, a spokesman with the Joint Information Center at Hanford told KIRO TV News that officials are not declaring a radiological emergency.
According to Larson, a barrel being handled by workers broke open. It is not known what the barrel contains.
Workers in the immediate vicinity were evacuated. Other workers at the facility were ordered to "shelter in place," said Larson.
As of early Wednesday afternoon, there was no indication that people living near the facility had any reason for concern.
The incident occurred at the 200 West area of the south-central Washington site.
Workers have been unearthing long-buried containers of waste there. The site is also near a landfill where some waste is being permanently buried.
Workers were evacuated from a trench as a precaution after there was a suspected breached container at 10:35 a.m.
The state activated the Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray as a precaution.

Yikes!
Also hope the media scramble to Washington from Texas and knock Cindy off page one.
All is Well.... no problem here... no need to run...
No need to worry.... The thing I noticed from a short time near the tri cities... they're extrememly loyal to Hanford. They love their nuclear jobs, and they'd defend thee-eyed fish ;~D
Defend the three-eyed fish? Hell, here in Oak Ridge, we adopt them!
Nobody flocks to, and camps outside leaking nuclear sites. They'll report on it, but they'll report on it from anchor desks in Atlanta.
It's ~better~ than two!
OK - except her ;~D
ZAP to Hanoi Jane
Not THAT reservation!
I wonder if the "big, red bell" at LIGO went off.
