Here is another short

War is necessary, says vets’ group leader

War is necessary, says vets’ group leader

As the war in Iraq continues with no end in sight, more and more people are expressing skepticism about it.

One who believes the U.S. must remain vigilant to the point of going to war is Frank Bear, president of the Sullivan County Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

“I’ve heard some people say, ‘Why do we need to fight wars for peace, we don’t need to fight for peace anymore.’ That’s because they don’t know, they don’t realize,” he said. “What’s going to happen if we don’t have an army, if we don’t fight for peace, you wait until they’re banging on the door here, then you decide to put together an army and fight against it? You can’t do that. There are people out there that just cannot stand the fact that we are free.”

Bear said it is imperative that the U.S. continues to root out terrorism.

It's good to see these geezers with their positive attitudes.

There is much more support back home now and many many more people willing to honor those who have made sacrifices.

Thanks for the heads-up.

They ought to tell their fellow vet Sen Chuck Hagel to shut his mouth.

While Hagel is a vet who served in Vietnam, I no longer consider him my "fellow" vet.

He's more like a political opportunist who has a lot to learn about the American people.

What heroes these old soldiers are, and what a striking rebuttal for Hagel and the other Iraq=Vietnam quislings. I am not given to sentimentality but reading about these guys, still on the line for freedom after 35 years, brough a tear or two.
If it weren't for my 3-year-old son (I am 56), I would request voluntary re-activation and join these brothers from long ago in Iraq. I might anyway.

"They ought to tell their fellow vet Sen Chuck Hagel to shut his mouth."

Hagels comments prompted me to get these guys voice out there too as much as I can. There is no better place then here to spread the word.

Was I there..? Thank you for asking.

Yes, I was there in that Valley of Death known as the IA DRANG Valley of November 1965: Headquarters/Headquarters Company of the 1st Battalion, U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment of General CUSTER Fame.

I was Lt. HAL G. MOORE's (played by MEL GIBSON in "WE WERE SOLDIERS") 1st Radioman/Driver/Orderly/Altar Boy in Vietnam.

During our 7th Cavalry's November 1965 IA DRANG Campaign I was HAL's IA DRANG S-1 Personnnel Clerk. I was at IA DRANG's Landing Zone Falcon 3 air minutes out from the fight at Landing Zone X-Ray, thank GOD. See my IA DRANG Photos I've posted at Post No. 4 on this outstanding Thread.

There I carried our hero killed and wounded SkyTroopers off Huey helicopters fresh from LZ X-Ray and onto others headed back to Pleiku Airstrip, including a suddenly dead Capt. TOM METSKER who suddenly went face down after being hit in the back while helping someone else on board at LZ X-Ray. I was a true 'Witness to the Heroism of Many' that week in that Valley of Death which I write about in the Book:

See: 'MODERN DAY HEROES: In Defense of America'

http://www.ModernDayHeroes.com/aloha

Hit: 'Resource Center'

Hit: 'Aloha Ronnie'

As depicted in "WE WERE SOLDIERS" ...after our IA DRANG Battle Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE hand wrote out his Letters of Condolances to the loved ones of our many 7th Cavalry casualties, which numbered about 500. HAL hand wrote them out, I then typed them out for mailing back home ..some going first thru Mrs. JULIE MOORE at Columbus GA for her hand delivery to widows then living just outside Ft. Benning GA.

In April 2004 I was blessed to attend JULIE's Burial at the Ft. Benning GA Post Cemetary, just to be there for her mourning adult "Kids." Turns out I was to be their release after their having said their last goodbyes to their loving mother.

Was I there..? I was indeed, my Friend, I was indeed.
