MT. COMFORT, Ind. -- There are questions about whether the Blue Angels will be grounded for next week's Indianapolis Air Show at Mt. Comfort.
A Hancock County woman told RTV6's Jeremy Brilliant she has no problem with the planes themselves, just the noise their jets make and the effect on her dogs.

Any vets who care to weigh in on this? Can loud noises kill dogs.
As for this statement. "...she has no problem with the planes themselves, just the noise their jets make and the effect on her dogs."
That's just typical lefty double talk: "I hate the war and our country, but I support the troops."

Why do people have to be so difficult? Let the organizers pay for sedatives for the dogs that get too scared. Or let them pay for a day's boarding at another kennel. Or have the above donated in the interest of the hospital.

"....... I am against the injuring and death of my animals," Parke said. "I've lost four goldens (retrievers) over the years to these shows."
I've never heard of loud noises killing dogs. Although, I have a Black Lab who makes such loud noises that at times *I* could kill *her*.

Exactly right! Another alternative my co-workers & I came up with - take the dogs to one of the local bark-parks for an afternoon picnic. Pack some kibbles and snausages, and make it a day!

When the Blue Angels performed near our town their turn around in the air was right over my house. Me and my two dogs sat on our deck during the air show. I loved it and the dogs could have cared less. This lady is just looking for an excuse not to let Patriotic Americans enjoy themselves.

What BS.
I'll believe that the dogs go bonkers during a fly-by, but I bet the lady is trying to use sedatives to calm them (we have to do this to our dog during thunderstorms) and over-dosed them.

Very interesting situation. My question is what neighborhood are they performing in and are the Blue Angels violating local ordinances against noise? In Tampa, an outdoor amphitheater was built at the fair grounds, but the concerts there violated the county noise ordinances and residences nearby have the thing up in the courts. I can sympathize with them. Who would want to have a rap concert or a heavy metal concert shake their house when you are trying to sleep! I would put the Blue Angels in the same category. It's a wonderful air show, but shouldn't be disruptive to the people living in the area.

When the Blue Angels perform in San Francisco, it's funny to see the sea lions near Pier 39 swim out and look up to see what's going on. They don't seem to be in any danger of dying.
Great screen name, BTW. ;)

The noise never seems to bother my dogs. The jets for the flyover at the races come in at not much more than treetop level.

Can loud noises kill dogs. I don't know if you've ever had a jet fly right over your house, but it's extremely loud and will scare the hell out of you if you're not expecting it. Animals can get very scared, especially because they can't understand, and can die from stress-related causes such as heart attack. "Scared to death" isn't just a saying.
But like I said, a little sedation should do the trick.
To: grobdriver
Oooh - overdosed!?! I didn't even think of that! Very well could be.
FYI - this ladies' house is approx. 1 1/4 miles from the flight line (as the crow flies, or as the blue angel flies). There is a house less than 1/4 mile from the flight line that also has dogs, none of which have died in the several years the jets have been flying here.

My dogs run out to the shore of the lake to see what's going on.

My dogs run out to the shore of the lake to see what's going on. Most have no problem, especially if they've become used to the sound of jets. Although the phenomenon is real, the high incidence of death among her dogs does sound a bit fishy.
