Who’s Behind Cindy Sheehan? - The fame of being a grieving activist…
theOneRepublic journal ^ | 8/16/05 | Cliff Kincaid and Roger Aronoff

The story of Cindy Sheehan is a sad story all the way round. It is sad she lost her son in the Iraq War. It is sad that she is being exploited by far left. It is also sad that she is being exploited by the media and that she seems to enjoy it.

The latest example of this crass exploitation is the August 13 page-one story in the Washington Post about how the anti-war mother has gained “visibility.” The Post and other media have given her this “visibility.” They are feeding off one another to promote an anti-war agenda.

Sheehan, who once described herself as friendly toward President Bush, now says she wants to personally meet with the President and for him to “tell me that my son died for oil.” She wants to say to Bush: “You tell me that my son died to make your friends rich. You tell me my son died to spread the cancer of Pax Americana, imperialism in the Middle East.”

As Byron York of National Review noted, Sheehan has also said that without left-wing bloggers promoting her cause, America would already be a “fascist state.”

In her view, therefore, an effort to transform the Middle East by creating a democratic state in Iraq has become “imperialism” and “cancer,” and the U.S. is itself close to becoming a fascist state. She may be a “crackpot,” as Fred Barnes of Fox News commented, but she is also someone to be pitied because she has clearly been brainwashed.

Consider how her views have changed...[more]

Sheehan, who once described herself as friendly toward President Bush, now says she wants to personally meet with the President and for him to “tell me that my son died for oil.”

So she wants Bush to lie to her...remind me, why is it the Left incessantly complain about lies when they try to solicit them?

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20050816/ts_alt_afp/usiraqbushprotest_050816220629

CRAWFORD, United States (AFP) - A high profile peace camp set up by anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan is to move from the roadside outside President George W. Bush's Texas ranch to a private property nearby following mounting hostilities with local residents.

But Sheehan, whose protest has come to symbolize rising anti-war sentiment among Americans, has insisted she will not abandon her demonstration until the president agrees to a meeting.

A source close to the activists at the camp said Sheehan has accepted an offer to move onto private land next to Bush's Prairie Chapel ranch following mounting tensions in recent days.

One man drove a sports utility truck over white crosses, planted by the activists and bearing the names of US soldiers killed in Iraq on Monday night. Some residents have sought a court order to stop the activists parking near the ranch.

Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq, has also had a bad week with the news that her husband has filed for divorce.

But the 48-year-old said she would not leave. "What happened last night is very disturbing to all of us and to all Americans," she said of the vandalising of the crosses.

"We're trying to be good neighbors. We are cooperating with law enforcement officials," she added.

"If they want us to leave, they have to talk to their neighbor George W. Bush and tell him to talk to us."

The camp has been on the roadside since August 6. Tensions started to rise on Sunday when a farmer neighbour of the president fired a shotgun in the air, in what many saw as a warning to the protesters.

The land that Sheehan is moving to is owned by a cousin of the farmer who fired the shots.

The driver of the pickup truck drove onto the grass verge in the dark late Monday to knock down some of the 500 crosses which had been placed by Sheehan's supporters. Police have arrested a local man.

But a group of residents of Crawford, the small town of 705 people nearest Bush's ranch, sought a court order on Tuesday to restrict parking in the area around the encampment, police said.

The judge in nearby Waco has 30 days to give a decision but police said six feet (two metres) on each side of the road is public land and anybody can park there unless it creates a hazard.

Sheehan has demanded to meet the president to make her demand that the 138,000 troops in Iraq be brought home. Her son is among about 1,850 American soldiers to have been killed in Iraq.

She has said she will remain at Crawford throughout Bush's five week summer holiday at his ranch and will then go to Washington to wait outside the White House if Bush continues to refuse.

Republican supporters staged a counter demonstration at the site at the weekend. They have since gone. Fifty activists take it in turns to man the peace camp with Sheehan.

Bush has said that he sympathises with Sheehan but will not talk with her. He met the woman in June 2004 after the death of her son who was killed in April 2004, five days after arriving in Baghdad. The president has met many of the families of troops killed in Iraq.

The president's refusal was reaffirmed Tuesday by White House deputy spokeswoman Dana Perino.

"He has met with her," she said. "One of the most cherished rights in America is the right of free speech and she has a right to express her views. He doesn't agree with her views but he respects her right to peacefully protest."

Sheehan's protest has come to symbolize the rise in anti-war sentiment among Americans. But it has taken a growing toll on her private life.

At the press conference, Sheehan refused to comment on reports that her husband had filed divorce papers last week. The two have live apart since June 1.

Her husband sought to end the 28-year marriage citing "irreconcilable differences," in divorce papers filed at Solano County District Court.

It helps if you remember the mass media are a flock of evolved vultures : they thrive on conflict and carnage, so they create it in order to continue to thrive.

If that's too hard to imagine, remember that one mother in two thousand is verbally p*ssing on her son's grave every day while neglecting her grieving husband and surviving children. This one mother in two thousand has torn her family apart. One mother in two thousand...yet the media genuflects before that piece of offal as though she'd given birth to the Second Coming. She's their Black Madonna in a way. They'll Moveon.org to a different piece of meat once Cindy Sue Who? outlives her usefulness.

Any mother who could so easily be 'brainwashed' into believing her son is a flipping Nazi is no mother. Take it from a mother. I'd be hurting the people making such accusations unless unequivocal proof to support the accusation was set before me....I would NOT be the one MAKING the accusations.

She and the rest of her bug-eyed, drooling, brain dead, leftist companions are wrong as usual: Hitler NAZI( Cindy Slew Who says her son worked for a NAZI regime). Moussilini was a fascist, not a Nazi. These idiots really need to work on their talking points. Even a leftist Jew can glom their contradiction here.

Why didn't she tell President Bush that her son died for oil when she met with him before?

Her husband sought to end their 28-year marriage citing "irreconcilable differences," pointing out that they had been separated since June 1, in divorce papers filed at Solano County District Court and posted at thesmokinggun.com.

He wants his share of their Vacaville, California home as well as other shared property, including "any and all benefits payable as a result of son's death," a Prudential insurance policy and "benefits from the US government," the papers said.

I think we should boycott Fox News until they quit giving Cindy Sheehan so much press coverage, with very little coverage of the other side of the issue! Anyone else agree with this? I will have to turn my TV off pretty soon, if they don't get off this thing. I just watched Special Report and can't take it anymore. When does Brit get back?

Liberal minds don't seem so much weak as non-existant. The ones lower on the food chain that is. If she were a Muslim, she'd be a prime candidate for a homocide bomber. I wonder how long before she pulls a Rachael Corrie?

Hannity, Ankarlo, and others have already reported how she is not really staying in that tent at night.

She is staying at a nearby hotel.....where some of the media are staying.

Her whole little show is a fraud. Nothing but politics.

Hell, I haven't been able to bear watching Fox News for more than 10 minutes at a time for a while now. All they seem interested in telling me about are "who cares" fluff stories like the seemingly non-stop coverage of the girl who went missing in Aruba. Oh yeah, they will throw in a little snippet here and there about Jews being forced to leave their homes, but then it's right back to the tabloid issue of the week. I've come to the conclusion that all American major media outlets are total garbage.

I moved from Georgia to New Mexico a few months ago and decided it would be a good time to try going without television for a while...since all I ever watched was news anyway. Between the runaway bride, the aruba chick and now the ditch witch...I can honestly say I have NOT missed it at all. There are going to have to be some major changes in cable and broadcast television before I consider hooking back up again.

To All the FReepers who wish they could have been in Crawford
to support President Bush and the Troops.

You do not have to be in Texas to show support for the Troops.

Visit your local military base today and at least once a week.

Or a military or veteran hospital.

If you can't do that then send an e-mail or packeage
to our troops for morale support.

We need coast to coast support for the troops, now, more than ever.

I'll bet Hanoi Kerry and Hanoi Jane are supplying funds and
morale support for the left.

We need to make an example of these 2 traitors from the 60's.

Anyone who thinks Hanoi Kerry isn't behind the anti war crowd needs to get a clue.

Spineless US Senate would rather protect Hanoi Kerry
than deal with the anti war crowd.

It's time to support our troops and ignore the jelly fish in the US Senate!

There is no need to impeach Hanoi Kerry from the US Senate

He is there illegally!

WAKEUP AMERICA!

For those who "forgot" what Hanoi Kerry
did in the past read on and learn the truth.

Hanoi Kerry was still a USNR officer while he:
gave false hearsay testimony to Congress
negotiated with the enemy
helped the US lose a war
abetted in the deaths of millions
created a hostile environment for all servicemen

Why is Kerry still in the US Senate?
This is in violation of
U.S. Constitution Amendment 14 Sec 3

And the FBI has proof of his treason.
