BAGHDAD, Iraq Early tests of chemicals seized at a suspected insurgent hideout in northern Iraq indicate they included substances that could be used in explosives, the U.S. military said Sunday. About 1,500 gallons of various chemicals were found in what the military called an insurgent chemical production facility in Mosul, 225 miles northwest of Baghdad.
Col. Henry Franke, a nuclear, biological, and chemical defense officer, said chemical samples indicate that the facility could have been used to produce explosives, and that it appeared to be associated with insurgents.
Chemical samples have been sent to the United States for further tests, Franke said. The military did not say when the tests which will determine the exact chemicals found, among other things are expected to be complete.
Franke said it was "very doubtful" that the facility, which appeared to have been manned daily and included escape routes, could have been producing chemicals for industrial use.
U.S. troops, acting on a tip from detainees under interrogation, raided the building early Tuesday, the military said. The military did not say if anyone was detained in the raid.

Chemical Plant Raid Photos Reveal Unexpected Surprise
On August 9,2005, acting on a tip from Iraqi citizens, US forces uncovered a clandestine chemical production facility, which contained among other things roughly 1500 gallons of chemical precursors.
There has been no announcement as to the precise nature of what was found, but I believe I recognize one of the items depicted here:
http://www.defenselink.mil/news/Aug2005/20050813_2415.html
I refer you to the top picture, and respectfully draw your attention to a piece of equipment in the foreground of the photograph. Youll see a sort of inverted cone on legs ,with hoses attached, and fittings for attachment of
A forced air/hot air feeding flue.
Unless I miss my guess, the device is a spray dryer ( sometimes called a flash dryer ) of laboratory size ; and it is used for the small-scale preparation of biowarfare agents, such as Anthrax.
Huge production facilities are not required: the Anthrax Attacks of 2001 were carried out with approximately 2 grams of bioagent. ( The machine you see is capable of producing multi-kilogram lots in a single run.)
Now Id like to direct your attention to this page :

This is the Niro Spray Dryer UNMOVIC inspectors were asked to watch for in Iraq-just before Operation Iraqi Freedom began.
(Take your time ! Go back and forth between the two links, and make up your own mind. What did the troops find there ? )
The Big Liberal Media is fast sleeping or camped out near the Bush ranch.
Bomb factory...interesting twist...they are making their own boom boom's now.
Hmm... Iraq is reported to be awash with saddamite military materiel. Why then would one go to the trouble of making high explosives, with associated stability/quality control problems to address, plus generation of telltale waste stream? Does not make much sense.
"Insurgent" Meth Lab BUSTED!
BAGHDAD, Iraq Early tests of chemicals seized at a suspected insurgent hideout in northern Iraq indicate they included substances that could be used in production of Methamphetamine, the U.S. military said Sunday. About 1,500 gallons of various chemicals were found in what the military called an insurgent drug production facility in Mosul, 225 miles northwest of Baghdad.
"It's the scurge of our area, most young insurgents get started on the stuff while laying IEDs, the long hours you know." said Shiek Moduwadity.
"It was the same for me when we took the Great Satans Embassy hostage, I had to stay awake for 444 days, the
ICE sure helped but coming down, WHOA!", said Ali nijad.
Whoa....look at post 2.
Looks like a baby milk factory...
Bye-Bye.
But, but, but....we were told there were no weapons of mass destruction (end sarcasm).

But I hear that it intensifies the goats pleasure.....
I hear they have ICE parties with unprotected goat sex.
Don't they understand the risk to the goats?
Where's PETA ?
They just use the goat and act like they never saw it the next day.
Hello tet68, just to let you know how terrorism is raising it's ugly head just had some breaking news on the Panamanian news stations.
Seems there is a terrorists threat against the Panama Canal.
There is a task force from 15 nations here to upgrade the security of the cana.
This morning three Panamanian naval personell were killed under suspicious circumstances. Still investigating.
Over the past month there has been a lot of helicopter traffic at night. Also, there are armed Panamanian troops (armed with automatics) at government buildings and on the Bridge of the Americas. Thought something was up, didn't know it might be terrorists related.
I am trying to follow up on the news, but my Spanish isn't that good.
Hooboy, gene, they sure match. You don't need a spray dryer for explosives. Baby milk, maybe, but not explosives or even dope.
Got a link to the UNMOVIC search requirement? That would clinch it down tight.
Have we got somebody that knows about this kind of stuff?
God bless our troups. Go get them guys.
"Have we got somebody that knows about this kind of stuff?"
Perhaps it is to soon to even speculate. Surely if the US Lab test results are positive for precursors that can be used in the manufacture of VX,VX2, Sarin nerve gases, we shall know soon enough. In any case, the way the report is worded it appears this was some kind of makeshift lab, not a chemical plant. So something must have been attempted here. Who knows, it may be left over crap from before we even evaded, Xarqawi's gang where working on. Remember when the 101st Airborne went in and most of the sheetheads abruptly fled to the Kurdistain border for their escape.
