Two men tried to re-enter Canada from the United States early Saturday with handguns and ammunition strapped to their bodies, Canadian police said.
Ali Dirie, 22, and Yasin Mohamed, 23 -- both Canadians from the Toronto area -- face weapons-related charges and are in police custody in Niagara Falls, Ontario, according to a police statement. Ontario's Provincial Weapons Enforcement Team and the Niagara Regional Police Service are investigating.
Detective Sgt. Shawn Clarkson, of the Niagara Regional Police Service, would not say what led border officers to search the men.
The men's vehicle underwent a routine search at about 5:40 a.m. at Peace Bridge, which links Buffalo, New York, with Fort Erie, Ontario.
Smuggling U.S. guns into Canada, where gun restrictions are much tighter, has been a common problem.

I'm glad these guys were caught but it was due to their own stupidity. Anyone with half a brain wouldn't try to sneak weapons through an official crossing.
I was just thinking it was great that these guys were getting out of here and going up there. Its going to be interesting if the Canuks have to start dealing with dissafected muslims loathing those who gave them welfare handouts and drink beer.

Normally, they only ask US cars and citizens about guns.
They don't question Canadian cars about it.
Now, the questions should be how they got their hands on the guns in the US and what do they intend on doing with them in Canada?
How often does this happen (CA cops nab gun smugglers,
of whatever persuasion)? I'd guess arrests are frequent,
even though they likely only catch a small percentage
of them.
Has CNN ever reported it before? If not, what makes
this story newsworthy to them? (other than to bash our
"loose" gun laws - odds are high these dudes did not
buy the guns over the counter)

If we're going to have open borders our laws will need to be in sync. Considering that a Canadian lawmaker was screaming about American guns in Canada just a couple days ago I suspect you're probably right.
It was the Canadian Border Patrol that caught these guys, not US Border Patrol.
