A federal magistrate has recommended ... A federal judge must decide whether to adopt the magistrate's recommendations. Bad reporting on the part of the Title Writer.

Vermont regulations state that license plates are not allowed to have a combination of letters or numbers that refer in any language to race, religion, So much for free expression.

The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles also has refused to issue him a vanity plate that says "JN36TN."
If I saw that on a license plate I wouldn't be able to figure out what it meant. But I'm one of those who has to have everything spelled out for me.

So people can get all kinds of vile license plates (but the staff at Motor Vehicles pretend they don't understand the "hidden" meanings) but people can't get religious license plates?
Our rights being taken away, little by little.

A friend of mine has "EPHONE7" on his vanity plate. I'm guessing the powers-that-be in VT would allow it. But, if they parsed it correctly, they wouldn't.

I think the guy should be able to have what he wants on his plate.
That being said, I was seeing John 3:16 signs at ballgames so often that there for a while I thought it MUST mean "And the Lord said, go Sox!"
Bible verses are mean't to be respected not used as props in the stands.

Can someone help me out here. I'm having a senior moment. How do you interpret
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. "
and come up with a ruling that bans vanity plates? It seems to me that, if anything, the first amendment would protect his right to have the plate on his car.

This surprises me not at all.
After all, Vermont is the same state that keeps electing Bernie Sanders (Socialist -- VT) and Jim Jeffords (Turncoat -- VT).
