War Protester Cindy Sheehan Says She Won't Pay 2004 Taxes, Dares Government to Go After Her
Monday, August 8, 2005 | Kristinn

Cindy Sheehan, who is protesting the Iraq war by staging a vigil in Crawford, Texas demanding to have a meeting with President Bush to have him explain why her son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, was killed in the war last year is reported to have made recent pronouncements that she is refusing to pay her taxes because of her son's death in the war.

In a Providence Journal article about an appearance by Sheehan at a Rhode Island church published July 27, 2005, reporter Elizabeth Gudrais wrote:

For one thing, Sheehan said, she has stopped paying her taxes. "I didn't pay my taxes for 2004," she said. When a letter arrives declaring her payment delinquent, she said, "I'll say no -- I don't owe you a penny. We'll see what they do to me."

Last Friday, Sheehan gave a speech in Dallas, Texas at the Veterans for Peace conference. According to a published transcript, Sheehan said the following:

Another thing that I’m doing is - - my son was killed in 2004, so I’m not paying my taxes for 2004. If I get a letter from the IRS, I’m gonna say, you know what, this war is illegal; this is why this war is illegal. This war is immoral; this is why this war is immoral. You killed my son for this. I don’t owe you anything. And if I live to be a million, I won’t owe you a penny.

And I want them to come after me, because unlike what you’ve been doing with the war resistance, I want to put this frickin’ war on trial. And I want to say, “You give me my son, and I’ll pay your taxes.”

Also in the VFP speech, Sheehan is quoted as describing her state of mind as being quite dangerous:

So anyway that filth-spewer and warmonger, George Bush was speaking after the tragedy of the marines in Ohio, he said a couple things that outraged me. Seriously outraged me. And I know I don’t look like I’m outraged, I’m always so calm and everything, that’s because if I started hitting something, I wouldn’t stop ‘til it was dead. So I can’t even start, cause I know how dangerous that would be, but George Bush was talking, and he never mentioned the terrible incident of those marines, but he did say, that the families of the ones who have been killed can rest assured that their loved ones died for a noble cause.

Since beginning her roadside vigil about five miles from the President's ranch on Saturday, Sheehan has claimed she has been threatened by the Secret Service with being run over by speeding cars, and with being threatened with arrest by state officials for being a national security threat.

Sheehan has met once with President Bush, in June of last year at Ft. Lewis, Wash. She has given conflicting accounts of that meeting.

Last Saturday, two high level officials with the Bush administration met with her at her roadside vigil to hear her grievances.

Sheehan was not satisfied and has promised to stay in Crawford until she meets with the President. She says she'll follow him back to Washington, D.C. if he completes his August vacation without meeting her.

She dishonors her son. My mother would never have done this to myself or my brothers if we had died while in the service. She knew we would have come back to haunt her forever as three year olds.

Isn't this broad's 15 minutes up yet?

Obviously her son loved his country more in his brief lifetime than Cindy ever will. Shame on her.

This is truly sad. I can't begin to imagine her grief, but it is sickening the way the left is using this woman in this way. She needs professional help, not a tent in Crawford.

(he flew into Croatia and Bosnia a number times), I still would not have carried on like Miz Cindy.

Bingo. Two of our three sons serving also served under clinton. I disagreed with a lot but I kept my mouth shut for the most part in public.

"She has the right to do what she is doing....even though it does nothing to "stop the war"."

Maybe not --- if she is affecting interstate commerce.

She's become a media whore and begging to be jailed; it seems. The next thing you know, she's going to become a suicide bomber. And yes, I am being serious.

This chick has truly gone around the bend. I honestly don't think she even knows what she's saying at this point.

And, she "was threatened with arrest by state officials for being a national security threat", so Don't Mess With Texas, either!;)

Well, aren't we getting a little full of ourselves?

No problem Cindy. They'll just wait untill about 2010 when you've forgotten all about your big mouth and then lets hear how big your mouth is after 6yrs of penalties and interest will take everything you own and more....

The next thing you know, she's going to become a suicide bomber.

She must be considered a security risk by the Secret Service........

I hope she'll get a cult debriefing once she's in the joint.

Me too. She is being used as a tool by the extreme anti-everything Left. It's quite easy to use cult-like tactics of persuasion on someone who is emotionally vulnerable, which they have obviously done. It really does sound like her new friends are pushing her to get herself arrested so they can get more exposure.

It all depended on who her son elected as his beneficiary. There are a lot of "death" benefits that even retired vets like myself are eligible for.

Most bases in the USAF had an office that worked with families of active duty members who died while to ensure they were well informed.

Mums could have been left in the cold by her son.

I cannot believe I have not heard anyone say "go get her and protect her from the left." They are evil and we are not. Her son Casey, who died, if he is watching her and the rest of the country and is probably saying "is there not anyone who can get my mother out of harms way. That means from the liberals. If that were my mother and I was in heaven looking down, I would want just one person with a kind heart who could persuade her to rest and keep her away from the cameras and the MSM. Again, 300 million people live in this country and not one, ONE can see this mother is in pain and in need of help. The left is why she is at this point. They are the salt pouring into her wound.

Conservatives need to rescue this woman from herself and from the left. She is not a political football we can toss. Besides, we are not causing her to act so irrational. The left is what god meant when he said 'Woe to those who call evil good.’ Someone find her and bring her to safety. That is what conservatives must do because we know what the difference is from right and wrong. God Bless her please.

And one last thing. Where is her husband?

if i follow her logic, then she shouldn't pay taxes because the government "killed" her son?

So can pro-lifers refuse to pay taxes because the government continues to allow the killing of babies?

you know, i'm truly sorry for her loss, but making an public @ss out of yourself never solves your problem.

Believe me, I've tried.

she needs help, we all do sometimes, and i hope she finds it.....

Lou Dobbs can then add a 2nd counter to the end of his stupid show, just the like the one he has now for Judith Miller, showing the # of days she's been incarcerated.

She was a left wing activist BEFORE the war. She is just using her son as a political prop. She dishonors his sacrifice. Pathetic.
