War Protester Cindy Sheehan Says She Won't Pay 2004 Taxes, Dares Government to Go After Her
Monday, August 8, 2005 | Kristinn

Cindy Sheehan, who is protesting the Iraq war by staging a vigil in Crawford, Texas demanding to have a meeting with President Bush to have him explain why her son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, was killed in the war last year is reported to have made recent pronouncements that she is refusing to pay her taxes because of her son's death in the war.

In a Providence Journal article about an appearance by Sheehan at a Rhode Island church published July 27, 2005, reporter Elizabeth Gudrais wrote:

For one thing, Sheehan said, she has stopped paying her taxes. "I didn't pay my taxes for 2004," she said. When a letter arrives declaring her payment delinquent, she said, "I'll say no -- I don't owe you a penny. We'll see what they do to me."

Last Friday, Sheehan gave a speech in Dallas, Texas at the Veterans for Peace conference. According to a published transcript, Sheehan said the following:

Another thing that I’m doing is - - my son was killed in 2004, so I’m not paying my taxes for 2004. If I get a letter from the IRS, I’m gonna say, you know what, this war is illegal; this is why this war is illegal. This war is immoral; this is why this war is immoral. You killed my son for this. I don’t owe you anything. And if I live to be a million, I won’t owe you a penny.

And I want them to come after me, because unlike what you’ve been doing with the war resistance, I want to put this frickin’ war on trial. And I want to say, “You give me my son, and I’ll pay your taxes.”

Also in the VFP speech, Sheehan is quoted as describing her state of mind as being quite dangerous:

So anyway that filth-spewer and warmonger, George Bush was speaking after the tragedy of the marines in Ohio, he said a couple things that outraged me. Seriously outraged me. And I know I don’t look like I’m outraged, I’m always so calm and everything, that’s because if I started hitting something, I wouldn’t stop ‘til it was dead. So I can’t even start, cause I know how dangerous that would be, but George Bush was talking, and he never mentioned the terrible incident of those marines, but he did say, that the families of the ones who have been killed can rest assured that their loved ones died for a noble cause.

Since beginning her roadside vigil about five miles from the President's ranch on Saturday, Sheehan has claimed she has been threatened by the Secret Service with being run over by speeding cars, and with being threatened with arrest by state officials for being a national security threat.

Sheehan has met once with President Bush, in June of last year at Ft. Lewis, Wash. She has given conflicting accounts of that meeting.

Last Saturday, two high level officials with the Bush administration met with her at her roadside vigil to hear her grievances.

Sheehan was not satisfied and has promised to stay in Crawford until she meets with the President. She says she'll follow him back to Washington, D.C. if he completes his August vacation without meeting her.

It really sounds like she wants to get arrested one way or another. She plans on it Thursday in Crawford, as a "threat to national security."

I hope she'll get a cult debriefing once she's in the joint.

I feel sorry for her son who had a mother like that.

I have 3 sons and one is active duty right now. I don't like the fact he is in the service, but i would consider it selfish of my part to insist others send their sons in harms way and somehow my sons should not be included.

I am sure she didn't drag her son down to the recruiter.
I am sorry for her loss. But she has lowered herself to the level of the rats who would give up America for a free big mac. And I have no further sympathy for her inexcusable actions. And less use for those who are exploiting her grief for political gain.

"".."I didn't pay my taxes for 2004," she said..."

They won't even come after her for three years. Her 15 minutes of fame will be over by then, and she'll be in the looney bin.

Hmmm... How odd! In the interview Drudge played, she came across as a sweet, gentle, grieving Mom. Did she talk this way on the morning shows, or does she put on another persona when she wants? Does she save this rhetoric for her "friends"? Good actress! (or a complete phony...)

I find her pathetic and revolting. My brother served as a pilot in the Air Force during all of Bubba Klintoon's reign of error, and if anything had happened to him while flying in aid of one of Bubba's feckless adventures (he flew into Croatia and Bosnia a number times), I still would not have carried on like Miz Cindy. No one in my family would have either, and we all loathe the Klintoons as much as she loathes GWB, and with far greater justification.

Liberals do like taxes, they just don't like paying themselves.
The evil rich abusive corporate republicans are supposed to
pay for liberal's socialist ideas, and that's what they flat out say if you listen (not ment to condescend).

I know several liberals that cheat on their car taxes here in VA.

I feel sorry for Cindy Sheehan. I wish her some peace of mind. It seems like she's overcome with grief, so much so that she can't make a coherent statement. I'm sure these hate groups don't help.

I honestly think this woman needs professional help. She's totally off the "deep end". I'm sorry for her loss and I'm sure her son would be embarrassed to see her acting like this.

I'm sure the DNC have agreed in advance to pay whatever legal bills and judgements she accumulates. Be careful what you wish for, Ms. Sheehan.

The DemonRats bring you to town in a limo and send you home broke in a taxi (if you become too bothersome, you'll wind up in a burned-out car at the end of a long country road, another victim of a mysterious one-car "accident"). There was a day very recently when Mikey Moore was the man of the hour and the life of the party. The day after the Nov. 2004 elections, he couldn't get a phone call returned. The very same people that were wining and dining him this time last year will leave him wherever they find him. The same will happen to you, Sheehan. Count on it.

I'm not surprised she's the poster girl of some silly liberal bulls**t. I heard her sound bites. She sounds like a complete moron. Nobody is happy her son was killed but she's embarrassing herself at this point.

Par for the course.

How much did she get in death benefits? Did this ever pass?
Chu said that under the proposal, a tax-free "death gratuity" payment currently at $12,420 would be boosted to $100,000. In addition, the government would increase the amount of life insurance available to all servicemembers to $400,000 from $250,000. For troops in combat zones, the government would pay the premiums on the extra $150,000 in insurance.

The extra life insurance and the higher death gratuity would be retroactive to Oct. 7, 2001, the date the United States launched its invasion of Afghanistan in response to the Sept.

That's $500,000 (half a million) that she has gotten from the government (most of which is already tax-free) to support her protests -- that is if this proposal passed. Anyone know?

"It just don't work like that, hon."

That's right, Presidents and policies come and go, but the IRS just keeps going and they don't care whose Mama you are. Her protest is an empty, stupid and self-destructive gesture.

She is really looking mentally unbalanced.

She may get locked up...but it won't be in jail.

She is crying out for help, and these cretins that run these groups don't care about anything but their agenda.

I heard her on a local radio talk show here in Dallas tonight, and she was not making much sense..she was rambling, and even stopped the interview at one point and told the talk show host that perhaps they could schedule an interview for another day, because she is so tired from all of the other interviews she had done today...

I saw a picture of the tent she is supposedly sleeping in---it would be way too hot to sleep in...and if she is also participating in the hunger strike, she could go from a medical hospital, right to a psychiatric one...

Perhaps Laura should go down and talk with her.

This is a classic example of what I call "Liberal Narcissistic Martyrdom," or LNM. It's when a liberal is so self-absorbed, and so caught up in the idea of being a martyr for their cause, that they do stupid things to bring attention to themselves as "heroic martyrs" who "dared to defy the system."

It's a tired, unworking cliche.

I feel bad for the rest of her family. Every day brings another public psycho rant. It's getting harder and harder for people to admit that they even know her. Whatever they're paying her, it isn't worth it.

In this instance, I read that she arrived in a bus with the words Impeachment Tour emblazoned on the side.
