The recent incidents of terrorism in the UK, Turkey, Egypt and Israel are not necessarily the manifestation of a coordinated global campaign conducted by a single world-embracing radical Islamic terrorist organization. The terrorist attacks are a result of local initiatives by radical groups loosely united by their hatred for the West. Generally, the West, portrayed as decadent, aggressive and exploitative, is blamed for all the ills of Islamic societies. Paradoxically, it is feared and portrayed as tempting the Muslim masses by its hedonism and promiscuity.
The acts of violence perpetrated by the terrorists do not have clearly defined political objectives and mostly do not aim to change the policies of the states attacked. Indeed, the terrorists usually do not make demands prior to the perpetration of their attacks. In this respect, these acts are expressive, rather than instrumental, meaning that their primary functions are to express rejection of the West, and feelings of revulsion and contempt towards Western culture.
The religiously motivated Muslim terrorists dwell on the splendor of past Muslim empires and are frustrated by the present cultural, economic and military hegemony of the West. Their anger pushes them to punish Westerners just for being themselves. The violence is not serving as an instrument with which to change the behavior of the Westerners, for the terrorists have no intention or hope to see them repent. In accordance with radical Muslim theology, the West is doomed anyway. The Muslim radicals and their sympathizers thoroughly savor the human grief they bestow on "the enemies of Allah" because they believe the punishment is God-sent and well-deserved.
ISLAMIC TERROR has, however, a long-range instrumental goal the weakening of the West and its allies within the Muslim world. This is a residual of the old jihadist impulse, i.e. to bring the world outside Islamic rule, Dar el-Harb (literally the realm of the sword), under Muslim reign.
Clearly cognizant of the power differential with the Western powers and of the inability to vanquish the infidels by conventional means, terror is employed. While Muslim terror is intended to keep the imperialist flame of jihad alive, it attempts to show the West that despite the latter's economic and military might, it remains highly vulnerable and is unable to prevent costly defeats.
By the cumulative effect of terror, the Muslim radicals hope to undermine the strength and confidence of the West, forcing it to divert resources to defense, rather than development. September 11 in the US and July 7 in the UK are examples of such a rationale.
Turkey is a prime target for destabilization because despite its Muslim society, it is a self-declared secular republic, which has relegated Islam to the private sphere. Its Western orientation is anathema to the Muslim militants. Snatching Turkey away from the Western orbit would be a great victory a replay of the 1453 Muslim conquest of Constantinople, the capital of Christian Byzantium.
Egypt, the most important Arab state, and its regime have long ago become the subject of Muslim dissatisfaction. It is Egypt where the Muslim Brotherhood was founded and Egyptians play an important role in disseminating the radical ideology. President Anwar Sadat was murdered by Muslim extremists for allying Egypt politically to the West. Heavy Egyptian presence in al-Qaida is also illustrative of this point.
Israel is, of course, seen as a Western bastion and agent planted in the midst of the Arab world. The Jewish state, located within what is regarded as Islamic patrimony, is theologically an affront to the radical Muslim prism on international affairs. The success of a few million Jews in surviving the enmity of the whole Arab world is puzzling and frustrating. For the radicals, Israel seems to be a continuous reminder of the failure of the Muslim world to regain its lost power.
The West and its allies face a determined enemy armed with a millennium-type ideology who are undeterred by temporary setbacks. The first requirement for combating this terrorism is to recognize the nature of the threat. Many in the West are reluctant to call a spade a spade. Political correctness prevents many of the "enlightened circles" from identifying the problem as one stemming from atavistic desires of frustrated Muslims. It is misguided to look for social and political "root causes" that breed violence. Finding solutions for the ills of the societies of the Arab world an ambitious and commendable, but elusive goal of the current American administration may take generations. In the meantime, terrorists must be fought and the damage they can inflict upon the West must be minimized.
It is a grave mistake to view terrorism as a criminal activity to be dealt with by only regular police measures. The terrorists' war turns counterterror into a war for the defense of the West and its values. Gearing for warlike activities is different from police operations. It requires appropriate psychological dispositions, legal responses and security preparations. Moreover, the war on terror is a protracted conflict, which societies must accept living with. Nevertheless, with the right leadership the West can win this struggle as well.
If you'd like to be on or off this middle east/political ping list, please FR mail me.
If they hate the West so much, why do they live in it?
If not for Israel, they would be immersed in constant tribal wars.
If muslims would get up off their knees long enough to look skyward and dream, they might feel less inferior.
And a decent night's sleep would also help.
They terrorize because it is implicitly demanded of them by their founding documents, which they regard as the unalterable word of God.
Their Qeeran consists of the mutterings of an evil, madman who was a sadist and a pedophile. Mohammed's goal was to slaughter all who disagreed with his desire to conquer the world.
These people are, to borrow a noun from Zell Miller, PIGS!
And they had my full sympathy, until they started killing us over it.
Because they are crying out to be destroyed...
Having said that please try and think of a single contribution, invention, development or a creative success that any Moslem country has made for the betterment of mankind in the last 500 years. They are a net liability to civilization. They could not even develope their own natural resources and owe that to the West.
And btw, big al will never deliver on their expectations as big al and the whole system is evil and Satan NEVER delivers on his promises because he is the father of all lies.
And that, my friend, is why they live in the West.
We can not change Islam's charter but we must defend ourselves!
Bluntly, Islam is a cancer, and cancer needs to be treated by surgery (cutting the tumor out of the body) and by chemo and radiation therapies. In our society, the cancer of Islam must be cut out by deportation of radical imams and all Muslims who even espouse terrorist beliefs.....and overseas, we're engaged in chemo by killing al-Qaeda and other Muslim terrorists. If necessary, we should be prepared to give that part of the world radiation. Only then can we be sure the cancer is dead.
That's why they don't eat pork-canabalism is apparently where Muslims draw the line.
So let's send their haji arses back to the Islamic paradises from whence they came. Right now. Too easy.
Good reading. Thanks for the post.
It's all in the Quran: http://faithfacts.gospelcom.net/islam.html.
BINGO!
That's it in a nutshell!
I am reminded of a line from 'Dirty Harry'- when he tells them the killer will kill again- and they ask him why. He replies=
"...because he likes it."
That explains Islam and death.
why does the sun rise(not really)
because they are arabs
