"Did I get in before the ZOT?"
He should have said that he admires Pat Buchanan. All kinds of left wing zottery is tolerated on FR as long as the post'er is a Buchananite.

My Republican Party was the party of Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Barry Goldwater, and George H.W. Bush Funny, no mention of Reagan.
A true Republican would only need two names, Teddy Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan (and I guess the obligatory Abraham Lincoln) anybody else just dilutes the others.

James Chaney is a Left Coast Liberal in an elephant suit. His "departure" from the GOP is nothing more than a Leftwing media stunt.
Vaya con Hillary, James!

The author might want to check Teddy's party affiliations, seems to me he was on the Bullmoose ticket.

"I have to admit that I happen to know someone who was really a life long republican but now, because of hatred for the Iraq war, spouts every democratic talking point. A complete 180 in every category. Of course he is a journalism professor so perhaps it was in the cards all along."
There are some Republicans who are libertarian in outlook and are legitimately dissapointed in the War in Iraq, and VERY dissapointed in the rising government spending.
However, this guy that wrote the op-ed is not a legitimately dissapointed libertarian. He seems to take the knee-jerk Democrat view on everything, and then expects us to be stunned when he admits that he is a democrat.

We're poisoning our planet through gluttony and ignorance. Well, we've got to strip mine Earth first. We'll work on the other planets later.
Doing it any other way wouldn't be very sporting of us, would it?

Unless there is more than one James Chaney in Eugene, OR, according to the FEC, this guy stopped being a Republican no later than 1997.
