Dem Strategist Suggests on MSNBC that President May Be Focus of Leak Probe
MSNBC News | 07/16/2005 | MSNBC

Posted on 07/16/2005 7:55:07 AM PDT by RightFighter

On MSNBC a little while ago, they had a story about the "politics of the CIA leak". The reporter was interviewing Pat Buchanan and Democratic strategist Peter Fenn. What follows is the best transcript I could piece together quickly. I've quoted Fenn word for word.

PAT BUCHANAN: It's very, very serious...There is a credibility problem for the press secretary...There is no legal problem for Rove...Reporters in Washington have a gleam in their eye and smiles on their faces, and there's a reason for it...Pat Fitzgerald hasn't been digging for two years and judges haven't been sending reporters to jail because they don't have anything...Everyone in town (Washington) feels there is something very, very serious and today's story in the NY Times where a memo was floating around aboard Air Force One about Wilson's trip to Africa indicates this could be very big stuff.

ALEX: Peter, what kind of big stuff could Pat be referring to?

PETER FENN: Alex, this is not a third-rate burglary. The focus had been on White House staff. Now, as Pat says, with this memo from the State Department about Wilson, about his wife, about the connection, it was brought onto Air Force One by Secretary Powell. I cannot imagine, Alex, that if he's going up and down the aisles with that memo as he was supposed to have been, that he did not discuss it with the President of the United States. I cannot imagine that there were not phone calls from Ari Fleischer, the Press Secretary who was on board, back to the White House about this. This was precisely at the time when Wilson was about to publish his article. Folks knew about his position about weapons of mass destruction. I have a sense that this may go all the way to the top.

The Democrats are trying to start a civil war, which is pretty dumb, considering they don't own guns.

Wilson wrote his oped when he did because he got POed that the President used the 16 words that undermined anything he did or what he didn't. He first had to find his NY Slimes allies that could make some importance of him, Miller. She's in jail not for not writing a story but because Wilson leaked the info about his wife to her. Probably as verification to his work and findings.

I'll try to back out of this one gracefully . . .

FR has the best looking babes.

. . . and say that kennard has it right.

I really don't know, anyway, because I almost always default to the MSNBC position if I'm watching a 24/7 cable system. With that said, Monica Crowley is fast becoming one of my favorites. Of course that could be because she sits only a continent away from that Ron Reagan feller. He ain't pretty at all.

Per a Washington Times Article:
"Spouse of outed CIA officer signs on with Kerry"
By Joseph Curl
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

In May 2003, after his mission to Niger but before his July 6, 2003, Times op-ed piece, Mr. Wilson began working for Mr. Kerry as an unpaid adviser, offering foreign policy advice and speechwriting tips.

The CIA requested the investigation because it was their "employee" that was claiming she was outed. An investigation determines facts and conditions around the facts. If she was not covert, which she wasn't, by legal definition then there can be no crime about "outing" her but can still be a crime to lie to investigators, prosecutors, Senate, grand jury, etc... Because she was not covert, no one in the administration should have lied because no crime would have been committed by "outing" her and I'm sure they had the same info from their million dollar lawyers. The only one we know that has lied is Wilson himself.

Watch out or you'll have those who live in the state of denial all apoplectic. As long as we aren't the ones privy to those backroom deals, we can never really know for sure how certain slimy senators will vote on anything. I guess some people just like nasty political surprises or something so they want to leave on the blindfold until the 'moment'.

Are you actually saying that there are posters on this thread who believe that there are no RINO's to be wary of. Show me one. I think you misunderstand so posters.

As far as RINO's and any potential impeachment, they are far, far less likely to vote for impeachment than they are to vote against Bolton or a conservative judge.

Oh, thanks for reminding me of that! That fits, doesn't it?

Until he went to work for Kerry, he had no problem with the SOTU.

"The edge"??

There is another thread which reveals that Plame told the CIA her husband was scheduled to go to Niger on business, so he would be a good choice since he knew the President of Niger and the Minister of Mines.

So, since the principal exports of Niger are livestock, cowpeas, onions, and uranium, how many bushels of onions do you think Wilson was going to order? Or maybe he was contracting for a shipload of goats? Cowpeas (whatever those are)?

And this from that same article dated Feb 14, 2004:

"Mr. Wilson originally said reporters told him that White House political adviser Karl Rove told them his wife was "fair game" a statement he later retracted. (I can think of someone else that used the phrase "fair game" in the 04' election - but I digress).

In September, Mr. Kerry — who is making prewar intelligence a prime campaign issue, said the disclosure of Mrs. Plame's name '...is more than another example of politics driving the Bush administration. ... A special counsel should be appointed immediately so that we can find out how George Bush let this happen and hold those responsible accountable.'"

They've always been after Bush - Rove was just a doorway to try to wound the President.

"Mr. Wilson originally said reporters told him that White House political adviser Karl Rove told them his wife was "fair game" a statement he later retracted.

But Wilson said that again just yesterday; he even said that Chris Matthews was the one that called him and told him that.

And I think you're homing in on just what was happening here.

I haven't seen too many Rockefeller Republicans lately. As for globalist anti-sovereignty types, I've yet to meet anybody who thinks that Hagel is anything ducky.

They're aren't exactly making announcements, but during the Filibuster 'Gag of Seven' you got a whiff.

I don't recall seeing any posters here on FreeRepublic during the filibuster supporting the RINO's. Name just one. Better yet, any posters on this thread who support the RINO's please respond -- NOW!

And oddly enough, our President himself has managed to be a Rockefeller Republican "anti-sovereign type."

I certainly won't defend the prescription drug plan. That said our president has not compromised our sovereignty.

With the coterie of known political transvestites within the GOP, the Republicans and the President would rather NOT share their little "surprises" with us.

Afterall, we the little-people have already voted for them, and heck -- "compassionate conservatism" still means being "uniter -- NOT a divider" (bleech.)
