Nothing terribly revealing or exciting coming out of NBC reporter Jamie Gangel's interview with Joe Wilson, wife of CIA employee Valerie Plame. He's one angry dude, that was obvious. Also notable is that Gangel is among the fairest of the Washington press corps.
For example, she asked Wilson whether his actions aren't part of a partisan Democratic party effort to undermine W and Rove. When he denied it, she followed up: "you are a Democrat." Wilson answered with some boiler plate, refusing to confirm that he was a Dem, then adding "in 2000 I contributed not only to Al Gore but also to George Bush." Translation: I'm an unprincipled careerist looking out for #1.
Wilson rejected the assertion that Rove did nothing wrong because he hadn't revealed Plame's name. "My wife's name is Mrs. Joseph Wilson, so in stating she was my wife he revealed her name." My, my, how terribly un-feminist, Mr. Wilson!
Wilson did admit that he had no way of knowing whether Rove was aware Plame was an undercover operative.
Gangel: "Even if Rove didn't break a law, should he be fired?"
Wilson: "Absolutely."
In her subsequent coffee clatch with Tim Russert, Katie focused on W and the First Lady's failure to explicitly express confidence in Rove, though Russert noted that Rove's seating directly behind W was being interpreted as an expression of support.
Katie surmised that W might find himself in a sticky situation because he's extremely loyal but he did say anyone involved will be fired.
Russert actually said "you could say it's a question of 'what is is.' If Karl Rove said it was Joe Wilson's wife, does that meet the threshold for firing?"
Russert also stated that there could be serious national security ramifications in the case, perhaps other things we're not aware of, suggesting perhaps that's why W is being cautious.
Then it was on to reading the tea leaves of the latest opinion polls, of which there were a raft. Katie stated that she was "particularly interested" in the result showing a majority don't want a justice who will overturn Roe v. Wade. Gee, I wonder why Couric would have wanted to focus on that above all?
Today Show Plame-flame ping.
JOSEPH WILSON IS A FRAUD
GLGB I am still appreciative of you reading this crap so us with weaker stomachs can abstain. Thanks for the Cliff notes.
"W might find himself in a sticky situation because he's extremely loyal but he did say anyone involved will be fired."
He NEVER said "fired."
At that, he's more moderate than Nancy Pelosi, who thinks Rove should go to jail after he's fired! (I think she really thought he deserved the death penalty, but dems don't believe in that.) ;-)
So is double-digit IQ Katie.
Thanks, Chuck. My - twisted - pleasure, as always ;-)
I just knew in my heart Plame wore the pants in that family, now you've confirmed it.

I am waiting for an investigation on why Joseph Wilson's concubine was cleared for a job with the CIA and why she was able to recommend an obvious partisan hack to an assignment representing the administration on a national security matter.
Who gives a s#!t what wilson wants??
Timmy should stick with the news and not add more speculation about a case which he knows little.
I guess we know who wears the pants in that family.
Thanks for the info about Gangel and the report on the Today show.
This 'story' of the slightest hint of Rove involvement has so far garnered such extreme reactions that the media have become hawkers in a carnival sideshow. "Step right up! Watch the Rove try to escape from The Big Trap!"
FOR A GOOD TIME, CALL KATIE AT 212-LUV-DEMS.
I think that Valerie Plame is probably upset with her husband. It was his blustering that outed her. There would've been no reason to question who sent him, if Wilson had honestly reported his findings and the results, rather than politicizing the issue by pretending to have been sent by Administration, and by publishing an unofficial, inaccurate report of his findings.
Hmm, I guess my Freudian slip is showing, or should I say Wilson's? ;-)
