The CODEX/CAFTA documentary - We Become Silent
Wellness Television ^ | July 13, 2005 | Kevin Miller

Posted on 07/13/2005 9:35:18 PM PDT by Jenny Hatch

"Note: In the few short days since its release (June 27, 2005), 'WE BECOME SILENT' has become incredibly popular with huge numbers of hits from all over the world."

"International award-winning filmmaker Kevin P. Miller of Well TV announced the release of a new documentary about the threat to medical freedom of choice. 'We Become Silent: The Last Days of Health Freedom' details the ongoing attempts by multinational pharmaceutical interests and giant food companies — in concert with the WTO, the WHO and others — to limit the public’s access to herbs, vitamins and other therapies.

'We Become Silent’ is narrated by Dame Judi Dench, the noted UK actress who has won multiple Golden Globe awards, an Oscar, and a Tony for her on-stage work, in addition to dozens of other honors throughout her prestigious career.

During the 1990s, the legendary James Earl Jones narrated Miller’s film, ‘Let Truth Be The Bias.’ This hard-hitting film exposed the government's role in a guns-drawn raid at the office of a noted holistic MD, and highlighted the U.S. government’s complicity in suppressing the truth about the effectiveness of alternative/complementary medicines. ‘Truth’ successfully mobilized public support around the Dietary Supplement Health Education Act (DSHEA), which defended U.S. consumers' rights to health alternatives.

“I am releasing a 30 minute version of ‘We Become Silent’ because it is vital to engage the worldwide public about the dangers of CODEX ALIMENTARIUS,” said Miller. “If we don’t defend our health freedoms, they will be lost — and nothing would make the drug companies happier than to have free rein over our health.”

'We Become Silent’ features the only known video from inside a Codex meeting, exclusive interviews with delegates to the Codex Alimentarius Commission, U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials, two U.S. Congressmen, actor Mel Gibson, and more. Consumer activists like Dr. Robert Verkerk of Alliance for Natural Health play a major role in the documentary, as do Julian Whitaker, MD, Dr. Carolyn Dean of Friends of Freedom International, Scott Tips of the National Health Federation, John Hammell of International Advocates for Health Freedom, and many of the best-known health freedom advocates from around the world. 'We Become Silent’ is a powerful statement about the dominance of multinational corporations over personal freedoms, the WTO, Codex, and the challenges consumers face in trying to repel this monolith from their daily lives.

'We Become Silent’ will air in the USA on WorldLink Television (25 million US homes) and Well TV is aggressively courting UK, Canadian and European TV networks as well. It will be available for sale and distribution to health food stores, doctors, and consumers worldwide through the Internet."

This documentary was the final "straw that broke the camels back" for me. I have been researching Codex since a friend told me about it in an email alert a few months ago. Based on the research I have conducted, the chats/debates/mud slinging that have taken place here at Free Republic, and the various sites, articles, and columns that I have read on this topic, I am now going to contact my congressperson and request a NO vote for CAFTA.

Our Health Freedom is at a crossroads, please take the time to watch this informative and excellent documentary.

Does Cafta incorporate CODEX as american law? How are these two linked.

The documentary claims that in fact the CODEX will be included in the CAFTA agreements.

Check out the other threads on this topic...several of them refer to the actual cafta language...

The World Trade Organization is the true source of American Law being usurped by Codex, but how it ties into CAFTA is articulated very well on the documentary.

Good article at world net daily today:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=45269

Meanwhile, in the European Union, the EU Food Supplements Directive is set to take effect Aug. 1. Though there is a list of 28 "safe" vitamins and minerals that will continue to be sold in EU countries, there are 200 substances that will be restricted. A last minute attempt to block the regulations this week was turned back by the European Court of Justice.

CAFTA is a precursor to another treaty detractors say will dilute U.S. sovereignty, the Free Trade Area of the Americas, or FTAA. The pact would enlarge NAFTA, the North America Free Trade Agreement, to include all of the nations of the Americas except Cuba.

"Does Cafta incorporate CODEX as american law? How are these two linked."

From the World Net Daily article...

"Opponents of CAFTA point out the trade agreement contains a provision called the "Sanitary Phytosanitary Measures Agreement," which calls for signatory nations to "harmonize" their food regulations with those of the Codex Commission.

"Do you take vitamins and nutritional supplements? Do you want a synod of sickly Euro-socialists deciding which ones you can take, or whether you'll be able to take any of them at all? If your answers are 'yes' and 'no' – then take action NOW to stop CAFTA!" wrote William Norman Grigg in the New American.

Continued Grigg: "John C. Hammell of International Advocates for Health Freedom points out that the 'safety standards' imposed by the Commission in essence treat vitamins as potentially dangerous drugs, imposing 'Maximum Safe Permitted Levels' of potency that would make them practically useless."

Opponents believe the Codex regulations would supersede the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, which gave American consumers who use supplements certain protections against government regulations.

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, a CAFTA opponent, says the deal circumvents the Constitution:

"I oppose CAFTA for a very simple reason: it is unconstitutional. The Constitution clearly grants Congress alone the authority to regulate international trade. The plain text of Article I, Section 8, Clause 3 is incontrovertible. Neither Congress nor the president can give this authority away by treaty, any more than they can repeal the First Amendment by treaty. This fundamental point, based on the plain meaning of the Constitution, cannot be overstated. Every member of Congress who votes for CAFTA is voting to abdicate power to an international body in direct violation of the Constitution."

Ok, Jenny, now we wait for the Big Pharma shills on FR to come out of their holes and say how this is all an urban legend.

They have been so quiet since the EU Big Pharma machine kicked into gear the other day. Not one person has linked to snopes on any of my CAFTA/CODEX links for two whole days...I'm...speechless. Well, actually, I'm not. I do think some people have legitmate concerns about Freepers falling for urban legends and making idiots out of themselves.

My husband was in this group...he was really concerned about how much time I was spending researching this whole topic the past week, but when he watched this documentary last night, it changed everything for him, and for me.

It is really an excellent film. I would recomend it to anyone who would like to see for themselves. I think the most effective thing for me was seeing the whole big picture tied together in one short format.

I think the most interesting point made in the film was how a few people claimed that the pharmaceutical forces that were abated in 94 with the health freedom act in America really didn't go away...they just changed tactics.

I loved Congressman Pauls comments in the movie, he just nails it with his focus on the constitution.

"While the Codex regulations are not mandated on all participating nations, some experts believe nations on the losing end of trade disputes could be compelled to adopt them. The worst-case scenario for Americans would be the regulation of certain dosages of over-the-counter supplements as prescription drugs."

Another good quote from the WND article...

Thanks for posting this. Last night, George Noory had a round-table discussion on his radio show on CODEX, CAFTA, and the attended threats to our health freedoms. CAFTA is more than a trade agreement. It needs to be thrown into the dustbin of history.

Does Cafta incorporate CODEX as american law? How are these two linked.

"The seeds of our health freedom destruction are sewn inside Section 6 of CAFTA where members are forced to form a Sanitary-Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) Committee for the purpose of insuring ONGOING HARMONIZATION of our laws under the terms of the SPS Agreement in the WTO Trade Agreement."

This is very sneaky. But it means, in short, that the USA would have to adopt nutritional standards approved by WTO. Those standards are set forth in Codex Alimentarius. Codex makes almost every vitamin supplement on the market illegal and requires that only minimum (and woefully inadequate) amounts of vitamins be sold over the counter...

According to International Advocates for Health Freedom (IAHF, an organization that has full information on their site: http://www.iahf.com/index3.html

And I quote: "A group led by Dr Rolf Großklaus (Chair of the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses) has just produced a (eugenics oriented) "risk assessment model" for deducing maximum safe levels of nutrients provided in supplements and fortified foods.

It's extremely important to understand that the Codex Commission has been funded in large part by Bayer, a German company, and other manufacturers of pharmaceuticals. .

The final "recommended maximum levels for food supplements" as recommended by Dr. Großklaus and his team, are as follows:

Vitamins
Beta-Carotene: 2-4 mg
Vitamin D: 5-10 µg
Vitamin E (equivalent): 15 mg
Vitamin K: 80 µg
Vitamin B1 : 4 mg
Vitamin B2 : 4.5 mg
Niacin: 17 mg
Vitamin B6: ?5.4 mg
Folic acid: 400 µg
Pantothenic acid: 18 mg
Biotin: ?180 µg
Vitamin B12: 9 µg
Vitamin C: 225 mg

Minerals
Sodium: 550 mg
Chloride: 830 mg
Potassium: 2000 mg
Calcium: 1200 mg
Phosphorus: 1250 mg
Magnesium: 400 mg
Iron: ?15 mg
Iodine: 200 µg
Fluoride: 3.8 mg
Zinc: 10 mg
Selenium: 70 µg
Copper: 1500 µg
Manganese: 5 mg
Chromium: 100 µg
Molybdenum: 100 µg

See story at http://nutraingredients.com/news/ng.asp?id=57408&n=dh18&c=lmqbgluszkwtiej
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

SUMMING UP: Codex, funded by pharmaceutical companies, is aimed at making vitamins, minerals, and other health enhancing products illegal on the open market. They will only be available by prescription and will only be manufactured by pharmaceutical houses. That's the financial aspect.

The other aspect of this dreadful plan is to weaken healthy populations--again, the pharmaceutical manufacturers (Big Pharma) will profit enormously when formerly nutritionally sound populations begin to suffer health breakdowns. Plus, the weakened population will become less able to resist world government.

In effect, Codex wants to make sure that Americans have nutritional levels roughly equal to that of Africans living in mud huts. No Thank you!

The solution is to immediately write to your congresspersons and tell them to vote NO on CAFTA. Immediately! Cafta is about to be passed.

A fairly comprehensive look at the Codex problem From: http://garynull.com/issues/codex/aboutcodex.htm

Health Freedom is Under Attack

Worldwide pharmaceutical interests have launched a secretive global attack to limit access to information on health choices & restrict the right to obtain dietary supplements.

Pharmaceutical interests would gain financially if supplements are strictly controlled and so they are pushing for the US to adopt Codex Alimentarius, an international code of standards that would force us to "harmonize" with France & Germany's restrictive rules.

In Europe, The EU (European Union) Vitamin Directive threatens to destroy consumer access to therapeutic doses of vitamins & minerals, except by prescription.
In the U.S., Americans who write to Congress to demand an Oversight Hearing on Codex are being told that a Federal Statute already protects their rights. This is misleading.
Current pressure to set arbitrary "safety standards" for vitamins (UL's or Upper Levels) in the US could set the stage for harmonization. It has begun... (Live Links on source page)

"Health Freedom is Under Global Stealth Attack"
by John C. Hammell, President, International Advocates for Health Freedom

Vitamin Consumers World Wide, Especially Americans:

Multinational Pharmaceutical Interests are currently engaged in a global stealth attack on the dietary supplement industry and it won't be stopped without immediate massive grass roots action, especially in the USA and in the European Union. Currently in the European Union, vitamin consumers are under direct attack and there is a need for vitamin consumers world wide to go to www.laleva.org to sign the Anti-EU Vitamin Directive Petition. The EU Vitamin Directive threatens to destroy consumer access to vitamins and minerals within the therapeutic range, except by prescription, all over Europe, to force all EU nations to walk in lockstep with Germany and France where dietary supplements are heavily restricted. Unless stopped, all 15 EU nations will harmonize with Germany going into the next Codex vitamin meeting in November of 2001, and this could drive it through to completion.

This would set up the USA and the rest of the world for harmonization, in the same way all the EU countries are currently threatened. Consumers world wide must protest en masse, in the EU to your MEPs, elsewhere to your MPs and in America by demanding an oversight hearing which has been denied us since 1996 due to pressure from pharmaceutical interests.

For the past 5 years, members of Congress have told American vitamin consumers that an Oversight Hearing on Codex is a non issue because a Federal Statute protects our laws, including the Proxmire Vitamin Act, and the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, from harmonization to a restrictive international standard.

People receiving this response from Congress ARE BEING MISLED, and Congress is being scripted on how to respond by the FDA, which is acting in the best interests of the multinational pharmaceutical industry, instead of representing the best interests of American vitamin consumers.

If the Federal Statute in question (19 U.S.C. 3512(a)(1) and also (a)(2) in FACT protected our laws from harmonization to international standards which are usurping our sovereignty, it would not have been necessary for Congressman Ron Paul to introduce the American Sovereignty Restoration Act HR1146. "(ASRA")

Paul felt compelled to introduce ASRA because it is apparent to him, and to Jeanne Grimmett of the Congressional Research Service, that our domestic laws are not in fact protected by the aforementioned Federal Statute, due to the threat of trade sanctions being imposed by the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body whenever we try refusing to harmonize our laws to an international standard. There are many examples in which Congress has in fact caved to this threat of trade sanctions. They are shown at www.iahf.com "US Laws Not Safe" section.

Proof that we're being set up for harmonization to the highly restrictive EU and Codex standards can be found at www.crnusa.org/shellnr112000.html in an article titled "U.S. and European Leaders Agree on Principles to Harmonize Dietary Supplement Regulations" The American people seem to have been cut out of the loop as the pharmaceutically dominated working group on dietary supplements of the Trans Atlantic Business Dialogue has flat out stated their intention to harmonize our laws, whether we like it or not!!! The FDA is in bed with these multinational pharmaceutical companies, and all of this would come out in an Oversight Hearing.

This Codex Vitamin Issue is proof positive that we must pass the American Sovereignty Restoration Act, because none of our domestic laws are safe from harmonization, and this issue proves it. Oversight is, therefore, sorely needed.

"Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an underground dictatorship... To restrict the art of healing to one class of men and deny equal privileges to others will constitute the Bastille of medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic and have no place in a republic... The Constitution of this republic should make special privilege for medical freedom as well as religious freedom."--Dr Benjamin Rush, signer of the Declaration of Independence

AND FURTHERMORE:
from: http://garynull.com/issues/codex/CodexOverview.htm

"While Americans Slept
by A. Ofria

"When it comes to international affairs, we Americans tend to sit back and let our leaders do the talking. It is not that we don't care, but the issues are confusing and it is easier to trust that our government knows best. So most of us were silent when multinational corporations began taking over global markets and talk of “globalization and harmonization” replaced calls for “global harmony.” We assumed that our government was protecting us.

"Now we must question whether our leaders' actions were in our best interest. Was it for our good that they signed Mutual Recognition Agreements as part of GATT and NAFTA, giving up our right to refuse to “harmonize” with intrusive international standards? Will their decisions cost us access to vitamins, even though the Dietary Supplement Health & Education Act of 1994 was supposed to secure our right forever? How did they let supplements become a global issue and why did un-elected U.S.bureaucrats signal to the world that Americans were willing to “harmonize” U.S. supplement laws to conform to restrictive international standards?

"Our problem began years ago when the U.N. authorized the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization to develop a universal food code, “Codex Alimentarius.” The Codex Commission came under the influence of the pharmaceutical cartel and instead of focusing on food safety, it used its power to promote worldwide restrictions on vitamins. Meanwhile our U.S. Codex Delegation not only stood by, but made matters worse. In Bonn in 1996, for instance, Dr. Yetley of our FDA illegally seconded a motion to shift deliberations on herbs out of Codex, where at least they were considered foods (consistent with US law), to a secret panel at WHO that treats herbs as drugs, leaving them open to “prescription only” status.

"Now multinational interests are pressuring our federal agencies to impose “Upper Limits” on vitamins. If our government succumbs and sets these arbitrary safety standards, we will lose our right to opt out of Codex because we will have in effect agreed that this is a safety issue.

"Codex cannot control us directly. Statute 19USC 3512 safeguards our domestic laws from outside interference by stopping anyone from forcing us to conform to standards that conflict with existing U.S. law unless Congress consents. Unfortunately, Codex can circumvent this law because if we refuse to harmonize, the World Trade Organization’s Dispute Settlement Body can impose crippling trade sanctions on numerous industries unrelated to supplements. This immense pressure would force Congress to change our laws. In fact, Congress has already “harmonized” under threat of WTO sanctions and this Achilles Heel is why Rep. Ron Paul introduced the American Sovereignty Restoration Act (HR 1146) to pull us out of the UN.

"When we see powerful players forcing our leaders to act in ways that threaten the rights that Americans have historically died to preserve, we must remind them of their duty to safeguard our way of life. If we do not raise our voices above the clamor of multinational commercial interests, we may be silenced forever." END ARTICLE>

However, this is not the latest information, but another OK overview. Latest info is about the CAFTA connection and how Codex is coming in sneakily in a bland paragraph saying that CAFTA countries will "harmonize" with international health guidelines, ergo CODEX.
