Should local governments be allowed to use the power of eminent domain to take homes and buildings for private projects as long as they benefit the public good? Yes, as long as the owners are fairly compensated and the public benefit is clear: 32% No: 68%

So 32% would trash the Constitution. Maybe it's local developers repeat voting.

Should a single property owner in a larger project area always be able to block a project that benefits the public good?

Yes. The right of the individual is always more important than any public good:35%

No. The public good is sometimes more important than an individual's right: 65%

More rigged poll questions

I bet in the end the poll will overwhelmingly support the local governments side in this new eminent domain "law" of this new land.

Wait until all the city workers punch out of work and punch into the poll. There are scores of retarded relatives of municipal employees throughout the republic in need of jobs; given the private sector is moving to china just ahead of these pigs there will need to be public sector jobs created for these retards.

There is nothing left for most municipalities but this new "law". Someone will pay, and it will be those who did not get out.

Unfortunately, IMHO, the way the question is posed, it asks about "traditional" eminent domain issues. The mayor is asking about taking your property for a new (government) school building, widening the highway, building a new police station, etc. That practice has always been "legal."

What I have a BIG problem with is taking MY property through ED and then giving it to a private developer - as in the New London case.

Excellent points... When Slay rushed to the TV to praise the Kelo decision, I wonder how much he devalued property values throughout the city of St. Louis?

Most of the schools in the city of St. Louis have been closed, so to take someone home for that is just stupid, Most of the business have moved out of the city, so why take a home for that, there is not one mall operating inside the city other than the small strips where the Schnucks is located. How does taring down a business that has been in the same place for over twenty years so that St. Louis University can build another fountain of parking lot benefit either of us. Why should there be three gas station's within one block does this help anyone?

When was the last time a school was built near you?? Not one of the recent cases dealing with ED are for schools or road improvements.

These Eminent Domain fans in government believe in the myth that "State Capitalism" will "jump start" redevelopment, when actually it kills the free market and hampers development long term. The liberal fantasy of "public-private partnerships" is fundamentally the same economic formula practiced by fascists, socialists, absolute monarchs and dictators around the world.
