I just received this e-mail about the hacker who attempted to put down PW and other conservative sites. My firewall prevents me from hitting the freejeremy site, but I'm sure my fellow Freepers can enlighten us on this nut case's site.

Here's what the member of Future Jailbirds of America has on his site:
On March 17 2005, nine Chicago FBI agents raided and seized all electronic equipment in Jeremy Hammond's apartment. Facing intimidation from both the FBI and the Secret Service, he is being accused of hacking into right-wing website ProtestWarrior.com. While the website had not been damaged and no credit cards were billed, the FBI is threatening to charge him with unauthorized access and credit card fraud totalling to millions of dollars in damages and up to thirty years in federal prison for a crime that hasn't even happened.
Jeremy has done no damage to any system and has not charged anything to any credit card numbers. He is being targetted by law enforcement for his political activism and his involvement in running the hacking website HackThisSite.org. If the FBI indicts Jeremy, he faces federal prison and tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees. Support is desperately needed to fight this FBI indimidation and these ridiculous charges!

His defence seems to be that he hasn't actually charged anything to the credit card numbers yet, therefore he ought to get a bye. He is likely to discover that the law doesn't work that way.

Jeremy's defense lawyer obviously didn't write this. At least I hope he didn't.

His punishment should be to spend 5 minutes alone with each person from whom he stole a credit card number. No holds barred, anything goes.
I doubt he'd make it past the first 5 minute period.

Sucks to get caught hacking. Not only is your ass in a legal wringer, you look like a not-very-good hacker to all your hacker friends.
It also sucks that Protest Warrior had to spend all this money and time tracking down this slimebag, hiring security experts, and retooling its server. That's why I have no sympathy even for the teenage "joy-riding" hackers who just do it for "fun." It isn't fun if you're the one being hacked and if you're the one whose personal information has just gotten spread all over the Internet.

What will probably happen in this hacking case is that his lawyer will plea bargain down to a single felony for electronic intrusion, maybe getting the government to drop the avalanche of wire fraud charges.
He'll get 9 months or so confinement and be ordered to pay some restitution to ProtestWarrior. The short time in the clink will be to establish felony incarceration in case this fellow does something similar in the future. His parole will be long with terms including a heavy suspended sentence and the occasional FBI 'interview' to see what he's up to. He'll see invisible G-men behind him every time a shadow moves in his darkened room, which is just what the FBI cybercrimes department wants.
I'm no lawyer -- just seen what has happened in similar cases. Guys that think they're 'master hackers', ain't. The Feds can catch you quick as hell.
Let's come back in a couple of months and see what happens to this schmuck.

I think the Left wants to protect Jeremy Hammond at all costs because they fear that Hammond may have strong connections to MoveOn.org and Americans Coming Together, which could make the Department of Justice and the Secret Service come down HARD on these two groups for directly and indirectly advocating cybercrime.

Hackthissite/Jeremy -- sounds like a RUCKUS operation. In the early 90s, they were up to exactly this sort of agenda.

9 FBI Agents entered the home of Jeremy Hammond and roomates with a search
warrant; taking _all_ computers, equipments, and everything related.
Thursday 6 AM March 17, 2005
There was a loud knock on the front door. I woke up and came downstairs. A
bald man flashed an FBI badge by the window and I recognized that it was
the same gentleman that had spoken to Jeremy Hammond. I opened the door
and a few of them stepped in. His name is Brian Brusokas. He said,
"Remember me? We met at the coffee shop"
Brian Brusokas and another FBI agent took out a notepad and asked if I
will give any statements because he claims that I have "minimal
involvement." I said that I will not give a statement until I am with a
lawyer. They did the same thing to our roommate, Christopher. I was not
present at the time of his questioning.
Earlier this summer two FBI agents had contacted Jeremy enquiring about
the speech that he gave at Defcon on electronic civil disobedience. And
for a few months after that, they would contact Jeremy and chat in the
coffee shop, the nature of the conversation was never disclosed to me. The
contact ended a few months prior to this search warrant.
They said they were looking for all electronic equipment that could have
been related to hacking. They started taking pictures with a digital
camera in every room, explaining that they will be doing the same thing
after they conducted the search. They teamed off and began searching
through the shelves, examining all pieces of evidence and taking notebooks
and scraps of papers.
They took our apartment lease, bank statements, notebooks and binders.
They took our computers (1 HP ?e vectra, Mac Tower, Back Mac Tower,
Packard Bell Force CPU, X-Box, and a E-book) PDA?s, hard drive, all four
CD cases, and memory cards. There is a receipt of what was taken and was
given to us along with the search warrants. They took a picture of that as
well, claiming that it is their evidence that they left the documents with
us.
They went upstairs and rummaged through my closet, bedroom, bathroom, and
backpack. They went through my back pack and took a picture of my English
paper on Computer Hackers in addition to our phone books.
They left around 9 am and I called Jeremy as his father?s place. They were
already there.
I believe this a scare tactic prior to March 19th Anniversary of US
invasion in Iraq. This happened to other activists before the Republican
National Convention as well.
Please be aware that all your conversations on the phone, AIM, and any
mobile devices can be tapped without notice.
