Prayer request:FReeper injured from bike crash(Vanity)

Fellow Freepers, I need your prayers. Living in the Atlanta suburbs, I use my mountain bike, along with public transportation, to commute to and from work. I use sidewalks to stay out of traffic, when it is convenient. I consider myself a pretty good rider, and wear my helmet all of the time (almost).

Last Thursday, as I was on my way to the Lindbergh MARTA station, I made a manuever off of the sidewalk to go around two pedestrians. Upon my transition back onto the sidewalk, I made an error in approaching the curb (too parallel), my back tire kicked out, grabbed the curb, and threw me into the concrete -- face-first.

Stunned, I sat up, with the two pedestrians and a store owner running to my aid. I did not know the extent of my injuries, and thought I was okay. Just then, a co-worker rolled up to see me on the ground, and pulled over. He took one look at me, scooped me up, and zoomed to Piedmont Hospital, just a couple of miles away.

After a CATscan, x-rays, tetanus shot, and some major cleanup, I was informed of the damage. I really need some prayers, as I am in very bad pain, and cannot afford to miss much work.

In addition to the road-rash abrasions, and contusions, I have a fractured left arm, fractured nose, and I broke two front teeth. God was looking over me. For once, I did not put on my helmet, but did not get a concussion. The co-worker that was on the scene right after I crashed, just happened to decide to leave when I did from work. And, the accident happened just before an extended weekend, so that hopefully I'll have more time to recover, without missing much work.

I'm a bit bummed about my teeth, as I will be attending my nephew's wedding in two weeks, and I'll be aware of my smile. Oh well, if it's God's will that I look like this for a while, then I'm okay withh that.

Again, thanks for any prayers that you send up. FReepers are the best!!

Ouch! I know how that feels, that little electric motor in my front wheel means that when I crash I am really hauling tail, but you don't have much of a life avoiding danger.

Dear Jacknife: God bless you in your pain, and I hope you are able to get the rest you need over the holiday. Perhaps, Monday, you can go see your dentist and ask him about providing some acrylic "caps" for your broken teeth. They are only temporary, and not very strong, but they will allow you to smile. If the broken parts are small enough, he can use an acrylic substance to replace the broken pieces.

Hang tough, and, you pray, too, ok? Love and prayers,
Redhead

Oh dear, the stomach turns thinking of the pain you're enduring. If it's not too painful, temporary caps may be in order for your teeth. Who knows if there'll be so much nerve damage that root canals will happen later. Anyway, temporary and, later, permanent caps, will look just fine. You're in my prayers.

Prayers to you.

Try asking your dentist (who, presumably, is going to eventually repair your teeth) to make a fast clip-on set of caps for the wedding day. Mine once made a false tooth that was held in place by a wire and a dab of denture creme. It was only meant to be cosmetic. It was ok for smiling and speech but not for eating.

Ouch! You have my prayers for comfort and quick healing.

BTW, are still a framer? I worked at a frame shop here in Houston for a little bit. One of the most interesting jobs I have had.

After looking at the pics of that bike, I have to know how that works.

Thanks for the prayers. I am to see my dentist hopefully Tuesday. It sounds like I may be able to have a temporary solution until a permanent fix is made. Thanks for the encouragement.

I didn't work in the business long enough to get to the design stage, I just assembled the work, but it was challenging and taught me a lot of skills.

It's been 15 years, but I still catch myself inspecting framed work I come across.

Prayers up.

I do have a question...those gay looking helmet bicyclists wear, they must be designed by a Frenchman, are worthless. If you must wear one, why not demand Bell or some other real helmet manufacturer make a lightweight, say clear lexan, full face crash bucket?
