Comments on President Bush's speech (Plus AND Minus)
AP ^ | Jun. 28, 2005 | ap

"Iraq cannot be a failure. Our troops deserve a real plan for victory and our total support. We're ready to work with the president, every one of the Democratic senators, but he must acknowledge his mistakes and set forth a realistic course for the future." - Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

"Stopping evil will require bringing stability throughout the Middle East. It won't be easy, but it is a fight the United States must continue - and win. It is unfortunate that many Democratic leaders have chosen to politicize the war on terror and ignore the good work that our armed services are doing." - House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill.

"The American people now know that the war in Iraq is not making our country safer. Tonight, let's forget the rosy scenarios and the reminders about how tough the job is. Let's not divide our country by saying who's for the troops and who are not. We're all for the troops, and we view our support for the troops to be measured by not only the equipment we give them, the intelligence, but by a level of planning, again, to meet their level of sacrifice." - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

"As we mark the first anniversary of Iraqi sovereignty, we must remember that 25 million people have been liberated and now enjoy the promise of both freedom and self-determination. Democrat leaders may call that a 'grotesque mistake,' but I call it a humanitarian miracle, and I thank the president for his leadership in fighting this war." - House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas.

"Most Americans are torn - we know we have to fight a strong war on terror, but at the same time, nobody sees a light at the end of the tunnel. It is not enough for the president to say 'stay the course' and make a few minor adjustments. The president needs to lay out a concrete plan." - Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y.

"The president left no doubt. America will not make the tragic mistake of binding itself with an idiotic deadline for withdrawal from Iraq. We won't cut and run in Iraq. We won't desert the cause of democracy. And under no circumstances will we ever give in to the indiscriminate murderers who constantly and cowardly attack innocent people to further their cause." - Rep. J.D. Hayworth, R-Ariz.

"We just don't have a clue what the criteria for success is. People are still willing to give the president time if he would just level with them." - Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., a decorated Vietnam combat veteran.

"Today, we have no realistic strategy to reduce the risks to our soldiers and achieve our goals. While our military has done a superb job, our civilian leadership has not, and our soldiers are paying the price every day. ... When the vice president absurdly claims the 'insurgency is in its last throes,' he insults the common sense and intelligence of the American people." - Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.

"Our soldiers deserve better. They need a plan for success. They need an administration that is honest about the costs of war, human and otherwise, and they need full accountability and oversight on Capitol Hill. Sadly, that's not happening." - Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., on CNN's "Wolf Blitzer Reports."

"I was one of 23 senators who voted to stick with the United Nations, to share the risks and the cost of our engagement in Iraq. Yet the president went forward with the war. The president needs a new plan for bringing our troops home, and taking care of them when they do. He also needs a new secretary of defense." - Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md.

Democrats will stop at nothing to advance communism.

They simply hate our country.

Honorable Senator Kennedy from the great state of MA:

In baseball you get three strikes and you're out. How many do you get?

So predictable, and, frankly, so disappointing. The Dems had a real chance to pull up from the gutter-mouthed rhetoric they have been spewing at the President, and stand with him instead of against him. They could have made a start in rehabilitating themselves from their failures in the last several elections.

Instead, it is just more of the same from them. Clearly, based on the comments, they did not even listen to what the President said tonight. It should now be clear to anyone that their only goal is to exploit the GWOT, especially in Iraq, for political gain.

If they gave a damn about our troops, their behavior would have changed tonight. Alas, they are up to their old tricks.

There, now I feel better. Think I'll go write check to the RNC.

Exhibit A of why we don't TRUST YOU TO LEAD US DURING WAR!

Night and day between the attitudes of the people cited above.

what would be refreshing would be to see a 'D' actually rise from the ash heap and talk like Zell.

you would think that ONE of them would see this as an EXCELLENT opportunity.

kinda like just ONE reporter from MSM should seize the opportunity to get the story of his lifetime and actually publish John Kerry's 180 and his exit info.

Every comment by the Democrats borders on treason. They want our soldiers' sacrifices trashed and the USA to lose in Iraq as they side with our enemies.

President Bush is correct, stay the course and gut it out as the alternative is the end of freedom as we know it in the USA. Win in Iraq and let's take care of the traitors in due course. Losing elections is a 100 lashes with a bull whip to a Democrat, make them feel the pain again and again.
