SHREVEPORT, La. - It was billed as "Super Safe Sunday," a concert to promote nonviolence, but as people were leaving, gunfire erupted, killing one and wounding four others.

The shootings happened around 9:40 p.m. near the entrance to the Louisiana State Fairgrounds, where the rap concert, which drew an estimated 5,000 people, took place.

The event was closing when someone in a group of people walking away from the fairgrounds threw a bottle at a passing car. Witnesses told police that three of four occupants of the car got guns from the trunk and began shooting, sending people diving and running for cover.

Leonard Spratt, 41, of Shreveport, was killed. Police did not find his body until a few hours after the shooting. Of the other victims, two were treated and released, one was hospitalized in good condition, another in fair condition.

Sunday's was the second of five Super Safe Sunday events planned this spring and summer. They are designed to get young people off the streets and curb black-on-black violence.

where the rap concert...

Ah, OK, now I get it. A rap concert against violence.

In other news, the Palestinians for B'nai B'rith said today...

Tragic, moronic, and ironic. You cannot write a script any better than the headlines.

According to this, one of the attendees of the concert threw the bottle at a passing car?

Did they initiate this action in a "non-violent" way?

Of course, I do think that the reaction of the people in the car was over the top, and that they should be arrested, charged, and tried.

But, that aside, to be morbid... "Someone brought a Peace Activist to a gun fight..."

BLA! HA! HA! This reminds me of a "march against racism" in L.A. just before 9/11 I happened to pass by once. I was called "white motherf----r" and "cracker ba$tard" and even mistaken for a Jew and called a "kike" before I got through that third world chitter fest.

As they used to sing on "Sesame Street":

"One of these things is not like the other;

One of these things doesn't belong.

Can you tell which thing is not like the other,

Before I finish my song...?"

A rap concert to promote non-violence is like a Moveon.org rally to promote patriotism!

Chris Rock says that MLK promoted pacifism and non violence. The irony is the fact that on any street named after him you can bet theres some violence goin down.

Hi All-

Due to the distorted sense of acceptable behavior of the rap concert attendees, the guys throwing the bottles were "dissing" the guys in the car...so immediately shooting them was a "righteous" response. Losing credibility on the street would be a fate worse than death. Know what I'm saying, yo?
