Samuel A. Alito, 55, is a judge on the Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
----------
Emilio Garza, 58, is a judge on the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The former Marine and Texas state judge was considered for a Supreme Court seat by the first President Bush.
----------
J. Michael Luttig, 51, is considered a solid conservative choice for the high court. The Texas native worked in the Justice Department during the first Bush administration.
----------
Michael McConnell, 50, is a judge on the Denver-based 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
----------
A former Rehnquist clerk has also been mentioned as a possible court nominee. John G. Roberts, who has been on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit since June 2003, was one of President Bush's least contentious picks for the bench.
----------
Another Supreme Court prospect from the 4th Circuit is Judge James Harvie Wilkinson III.

Not a bad list of nominees. Now let's hope the Republicans can get one or more of them on the court.
I'd go with Garza.
Add Jerry Smith. He was Kathy Whitmire's city attorney in Houston.
I kind of like Alito but I can see the dems screaming like scorched cats if he is anything like Scalia.
Haven't seen that name mentioned. Will do a little research on him. I don't want anyone less than a full blooded conservative. Not a pretend one like Souter was.
Douglas W. Kmiec needs to be on that list.
Is he currently on a court?
Michigan's Supreme Court - about the only thing right now government wise we can brag about until Granholm and Stabenow get fired.
No he is one of the top constitutional Law professors in the Nation. He teaches at the Pepperdine Law School. I know him personally and he is constantly being called by TOP leaders in this country for his advice. The man is solid in his beliefs and the constitution.
Sounds a lot like Bork and you know how the dems hate anyone who actually knows what the Constitution has to say on issues. But he does sound like someone who should be on a judges list.
Haven't heard a lot about Michigan's Supreme Court. I am surprised that there are conservatives on the court.
Do a google search on him and read some of his work. He is simple and clear in his arguments and a man dedicated to God and his family.
12 years of John Engler. In Michigan, governors appoint vacancies, and then the appointed judges must run for election during a gubenatorial or presidential year to finish the term. After that, they run for re-election after a certain number of years, I believe 6 or 8.
"He is simple and clear in his arguments and a man dedicated to God and his family."
Sounds like a man that will bring a filibuster and maybe, just maybe give the Republicans a chance to go "nuclear".
Sounds like man who fits the full blooded conservative requirement. What do you think his chances would be?
Believe me the dems wouldnt want to see professor Kmiec in front of a judiciary committee microphone when the cameras were rolling. He can gently slice his opponent into julian fries before they knew what happened. Hopefully one day.
Sounds like he needs to be there...some of the judiciary senators need a butt whoopin by a man who can handle his own. I would love to see Specter taken apart for the liberal he is.
I attended a debate last October where Professor Kmiec took the Bush side and the poli-sci professor took the Kerry side. It was humiliating to watch. Kmiec was so SO far above these other guys it was like a t ball team playing the Yankees. He has argued before the supremes on numerous occasions. and won.
