We have important news to share with you to keep 50 caliber sniper rifles out of the hands of terrorists.
Congressman James P. Moran (D-VA), author of the 50 Caliber Sniper Rifle Reduction Act, will be offering an amendment this afternoon during House consideration of the Science, State, Justice and Commerce (SSJC) Appropriations bill (HR 2862) that would prohibit the exportation of the 50 Caliber Sniper Rifle.
Congressman Moran wrote the following letter to his House colleagues today about this important homeland security public policy measure:
"Capable of inflicting a devastatingly accurate impact from well over a mile away, the U.S. Army handbook on urban combat states that 50 caliber sniper rifles are intended for use as anti-materiel weapons, designed to attack bulk fuel tanks and other high-value targets from a distance, using "their ability to shoot through all but the heaviest shielding material.
"These weapons are a serious threat for use against civil aviation, hazardous cargo transport vehicles and rail cars carrying hazardous materials such as chlorine gas.
"The 50 Caliber is a favorite weapon of war lords, drug cartels and terrorists due to its unparalleled potential for damage. It has even been reported that al Qaeda, the Irish Republican Army and the Kosovo Liberation Army have purchased a number of these guns in the U.S. in recent years and shipped them overseas."

This legislation is like all other anti-gun legislation: It won't help and only the crooks will have guns.
Just look at what the gun laws in DC have done for the security of that city - nothing.

Actually no - I have never heard of a case where an American died in America from the results of a 50 cal rifle being fired...
As is usual, the gun grabbers are relying upon the fears of the iggerunt pubblick to allow them to destroy our rights to keep and bear arms, and to self defense. Read Federalist no. 46, and you will see exactly why we have the INDIVIDUAL right to keep and bear arms.
He is stupid also. Who can hold a 35 pound weapon on an airplane and judge the distance, calculate the drop of the bullet, calculate how far in front of the plane and guess at how far the wind will blow the bullet off target.
I remember seeing a photo of Hungarian(?-made rifle in 14.5mm. Carrying it around, though, would require porters who would be addressing the proud pith helmet-wearing rifle owner "bwana".
To use a Barrett a from mile away, you will have about $10,000 invested considering glass and practicing ammo as add ons to the basic price.
Mr Moran says these 50 cal;iber weapons have become a favorite among drug cartels , war lords and terrorists, Can he please give us one---just one---example of when one was used against us?
