I believe long kitchen knives now also qualify as "assault weapons".

You might want to look into the surname Shabbaz. This man may have converted, but he's American, I'm fairly certain of it.

Libs have a bit of a conflict on this one. Should we let suspected terrorists have their guns?

Give them time (a few hours) and they will.

an "assault rifle" is, by definition, a weapon capable of semiautomatic AND burst or full-auto fire.
an "assault weapon" is a civilian semiauto weapon which is "ugly" and scares leftists.

What's missing in this report?
Nationalities.
Visa status.
Nothing too intrusive, mind you.
Since when do criminal illegal residents have the right to privacy?
To: Oorang
Deputies say Abdullah Shabbaz and a man who calls himself Yassin Abdurahman...Strange names for "white supremacists"....Those are the only kind of rural people blasting away with assualt weapons.....right???

Assault Rifle: n. Any of various automatic or semiautomatic rifles designed for individual use in combat. Source: The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition
But seriously though, an Enfield can be an assault rifle, if you assault someone with it!

as they are likely to be jihadis, I sympathise with your feelings.
however, the right to be armed to the teeth is a natural right recognized by our constitution, and is not amenable to abridgement, let alone for "feelings"
let them commit a crime, THEN treat them as guilty.
that IS the way our republic is supposed to work, after all.

a duffle bag sitting next to them loaded up with semi-automatic assault rifles, handguns, clips and a gas mask
Do that in Colorado (include the gas mask with the weapons), and you'll be arrested for violating the prohibition on constituting or training private armies.

Wait.
I missed the funniest part of this posted article.
Two arrested after target practice
In most rural (County) areas of California, if one is not a nuisance to others, target practice is a non-issue on one own's land.
To: RegulatorCountry
Roger that. 99.9% of the time Shabbaz is an indicator of Nation of Islam, e.g. Black Muslims ala Farrakhan.
To: Publius6961
Yup, a few details missing. It was on the 10pm Portland news last night but nothing online. Today I could only find this one article. Nor could I find any info on the two individuals.
For anyone interested, the area - Larch Mountain - where they were practicing (with a gas mask in the duffel bag?!?) is a heavily wooded area near the Columbia River Gorge, south of the little town of Corbett, east of Portland. It's also basically across the Columbia River from the gravel pit where some of the "Portland Seven" were found target practicing shortly before they were arrested.

I am not for gun control. But, it was not stated if they were citizens was it? And one was wanted on a drug charge, so he will not be able to have weapons after his conviction most likely.

It depends on who you ask. The DIA classifies an assault rifle as one which is capable of selective fire.

He should've Americanized it to something like Abdullah Bubba Shabbaz. Shabazz I believe is the family name of a couple of Malcolm X's children.
