ABC News Poll: Was Mark Felt a Hero for What He did?
I dunno - I am not fond of Richard Nixon, and he did engage in criminal behavior, so I'm OK with his resignation. However, I feel that Felt basically responded in kind... sneaky, underhanded, potentially criminal behavior to play "gotcha" with Nixon.
To me Felt is a flawed character like Nixon... not a hero.
I voted "No" too but we're way in the minority.
71.8% - YES, he's a hero
28.1% - NO, he's NOT a hero
I second the motion.
I voted no also. A hero would have stood up and said what he knew out in the open.
Well, when watching Nightline last night my gut reaction was, 'wait a second liberal media... if coming forward to report on the illegal acts of a President makes you a hero - no matter HOW you do it, then isn't Linda Tripp a much GREATER hero than Felt? Yet you all villify Linda Tripp'
Which to me tells the whole story.
bttt
Felt got passed over for a promotion so he helped reporters dig up dirt on Nixon's aides illegal efforts to expose a major DNC scandal. Nixon then got sold down the river by the other moderates he kept close to him.
No
A no vote. Of course, most of the yes votes are probably libs.
He may have lied but he didn't get us into war like LBJ, he got us out. He wasn't a womanizer like JFK and he never sold nuclear secrets to China like BJ.
He had the decency to resign unlike BJ.
I've already posted here that if this man is considered a "hero" then heaven help us all and I mean this. The number 2 man at the FBI leaks classified confidential information, that he has special access to, about the president during war time. If he had admitted this to a prosecutor that's one thing, but he leaks it to the press. This has shades of RAmsey Clark. Do we consider him a hero too?

He's just another guy po'd because he didn't get the promotion he thought he deserved. His actions resulted in the resignation of a President because the media disliked that President and were willing to use his leaks.
Richard Clarke tried a similar tactic last year but failed despite the media's enthusiastic support.
Neither Felt nor Clarke even come close to "hero" status.
Remember how Linda Tripp was savaged for taping Monica's conversations? The status of a snitch in todays press depends on who they snitch on. Another pathetically transparent double standard.
Voted 'NO' also .... seems like a landslide, though.
I had the misfortune of watching "Nightline" last night.
Was it me...or did Ted Koppel go just a little bit overboard in his closing ststement?
The sanctomoniousness and Nixon-hating was very evident. At least, that's how I saw it.
