Statement on Granting Pardons to W. Mark Felt and Edward S. Miller

April 15, 1981

Pursuant to the grant of authority in article II, section 2 of the Constitution of the United States, I have granted full and unconditional pardons to W. Mark Felt and Edward S. Miller.

During their long careers, Mark Felt and Edward Miller served the Federal Bureau of Investigation and our nation with great distinction. To punish them further -- after 3 years of criminal prosecution proceedings -- would not serve the ends of justice.

Their convictions in the U.S. District Court, on appeal at the time I signed the pardons, grew out of their good-faith belief that their actions were necessary to preserve the security interests of our country. The record demonstrates that they acted not with criminal intent, but in the belief that they had grants of authority reaching to the highest levels of government.

America was at war in 1972, and Messrs. Felt and Miller followed procedures they believed essential to keep the Director of the FBI, the Attorney General, and the President of the United States advised of the activities of hostile foreign powers and their collaborators in this country. They have never denied their actions, but, in fact, came forward to acknowledge them publicly in order to relieve their subordinate agents from criminal actions.

Four years ago, thousands of draft evaders and others who violated the Selective Service laws were unconditionally pardoned by my predecessor. America was generous to those who refused to serve their country in the Vietnam war. We can be no less generous to two men who acted on high principle to bring an end to the terrorism that was threatening our nation.

Clinton Pardon's the very Weather Underground terrorists "Deep Throat" was after:

Why did Clinton pardon them? In this case, both did not have benefactors
giving large sums of money to Hillary's campaign, to the Democratic
National Committee, or to the Clintons' personal legal defense fund. To
date, I have not seen any investigative reports as to who recommended
them, nor seen any comments from the former President as to what motivated
him to grant these pardons. Let us look first at the record.

Susan Rosenberg was a former member of the Weather Underground the
extremist faction that emerged from Students for a Democratic Society in
the 1960's. The group was the major exponent of revolutionary violence,
which they sought to carry out in a joint effort with black radicals in
the Black Panther Party. Rosenberg was arrested in New Jersey in 1984,
after she and a companion were found unloading pounds of dynamite and
weapons, and a submachine gun, from their auto. These weapons were to be
used by a Weather Underground cell in planned bombings, the key "tactic"
favored by these revolutionaries at the time. Rosenberg was indicted and
found guilty by a jury, and sentenced to 58 years in prison.

Among other crimes, Rosenberg was also accused in a nine-count indictment
in 1982 of helping to engineer the 1979 prison escape of Black Liberation
Army leader Joanne Chesimard, who was convicted of murder, assault,
robbery and weapons charges in the May 2, 1973 murder of a New Jersey
State Trooper, W. Foerster, and the wounding of another trooper while
traveling on the New Jersey turnpike. Chesimard shot the second trooper,
James Harper, as he was retreating to his police car. On November 2, 1979,
Rosenberg helped Chesimard escape from a women's prison at which she was
serving a life sentence, when visitors took a guard and prison driver
hostage. Chesimard then managed to escape to Cuba, where Fidel Castro gave
her sanctuary.

Granted, the difference is diminished...but the differences are still huge, as the contrast above very clearly points out...and is still glaringly evident re: the WOT, etc.

Felt was pardoned for authorizing breakins to offices.

Nixon was also pardoned for authorizing breakins to offices.

But there's a bit of a story to that second one there...

Man, irony never gets this thick in fiction.

==Felt was pardoned for authorizing breakins to offices.

The difference is, Felt was doing the right thing...that is, until the Left shut him down.

What was he Pardon for. I mean what did he do to need a pardon. Since what this A hole is Felony, and by virtue of the fact that as a AAG, he was leaking Gov. investigation material to two sleezy msm types. Interesting how the msm is acting like this guy is some national hero, when in fact he's just another Felon,(he has issue a confession). Does this also mean that who ever told Novak about Plame gets a pass. Now it is understandable why very few were prosecuted, any potted plant worth his fee, would have any of the evidence thron out of court.

Also, read President Reagan's pardon. If you study the case, you will find that the text of Reagan's pardon is absolutely true. Felt was following standard operating procedure back then...that is, until the political Left gutted the FBI's ability to investigate and root-out terrorists.

The links in post #12 are a pretty good refresher for what was going on at the time. I have a feeling that we will know a heck of a lot more about Watergate before this all over...and the Left will almost certainly regret hailing felt as a hero. Felt is a hero of the Right, not the Left.

Ping......

Not too difficult to figure out why the clintons pardoned them, since 5 am this morning, I have heard on every talk show on the radio, "Who can beat hilary?"

hilary will require every vote she can get.

Didn't hilary work on the defense side of the weathermen as a young attorney?
attorney?

I have a feeling that Felt helping to bring down Nixon and the days the Left prosecuted Felt for waging war on Communist Terrorists are connected. Perhaps not directly, but connected nonetheless. Can't wait to see how this pans out. Mark my words, the Left will end up eating crow on this one BIG TIME. They picked the wrong guy to celebrate as a hero...Felt is one of ours.
