I beg to differ, the proposed ban does not go far enough.
Many studies ( look it up) show that a great deal of home accidents resulting in injury happen in the Kitchen.
For the concern of public health, safety and welfare the solution is obvious Ban KITCHENS.
Not only are there knives but we have a 5 tined hand held instrument. The danger of this is obvious. Especially in the hands of children. Running children at that. How many eyes would be saved if we banned KITCHENS. But regardless of the dangerous implements at hand there are other menaces.
Stoves- source of fire and if gas can be potentially fatal. Also gas ranges are a clear invitation to suicide.
With the number of restaurants and the increase of professionaly trained kitchen employees, there really is no justification for home kitchens. BAN THE KITCHEN NOW.

"When knives are outlawed, only outlaws will eat steak!"
Then they will ban clevers, axes, hatchets, base ball bats, eventually leading up to a total ban on personal vehicles.
No wonder Muslims continue to pour into the UK. It will be a total save haven for them. Once anything that could possibly injure someone is banned and removed from the population through cash ins etc, the Muslims will take over, with their hidden AK47's and knives. The Brits have truly become a pack of wimps and morons. Sorry for all British Freepers, you folks of course or excluded from the statement. Sorry your countrymen allowed for your guns to be taken away. And I mean that.

say they consulted with leading chefs who said long knives were not needed for cooking.

Ever try cutting a watermelon in half with a paring knife?

As a lady co-worker of mine once observed:

"Studies show that most men who are murdered by their wives are killed in the kitchen -- BUT not one of them was doing dishes at the time!"
