rofl!!! This, coming from La Opinion, is a hoot! Yea... let's just all ignore what's been going on in SoCal wrt "illegals".. and let's just jump for joy that they voted for Villagarosa. La Opinion - biased? lol. Did La Opinion ever even remotely worry that with all things already bought and traded in re politics and bureacracies in SoCal that the vote would be any different? Right. Who'd a think Villagorosa wouldn't have gotten "elected". Uhuh. Another larger election looms in CA's future. Someone with a latin-last name, heavily in the pocket of the Democrat party plans on winning. Villagorosa's win, recently, no doubts has bigger money handlers working triple time on changing odds in favor of a win by the Latin Democrat.

The entire article is a doosy - too bad it is excerpted at 100 words. For a taste of what's missing:

"Mark Sawyer, Political Science profesor from (UCLA), has noted that a good number of whites that voted against Villariagosa cited his positions on immigration as reason they opposed.

The professor also considers that the minority candidates, particularly Latin Americans and Blacks, carry an extra load on their backs when they are elected to a public position. “In the first place, because they feel the expectations of their own group, and in second, because they undergo the scrutiny by other groups by people who worry that they will privilege their own people”.

The election of black candidates to position of power in the state, particularly during republican administrations, he continued to explain, meant that the FBI would open up investigations in search of dirty laundry.

“That is another form of scrutiny that we have to confront”.

I take the professor's statement as innoculation against corruption charges most likely being currently investigated.

Chauvinistic wave? If anything, the Chauvinistic wave is traveling from South to North.

The left seems to be willing to import a culture women-hating, gay-bashing, macho thuggery if it means those same people will vote for socialist style government.

One more snipet on Villariegosa's need to hide his ethnicity during the campaign.

"Antonio Villaraigosa will have, among others, the task to fight the anti-immigrant beliefs without emphasizing too much his ethnic identity "

The chauvinistic tide that travels through the country, with “minutemen” gunmen guarding the border and a draconian law that prohibits the issuance of drivers licenses to the those lacking identity papers, did not impede that a Latin American whose father is a Mexican immigrant was chosen mayor of The Angels.

The chosen mayor nevertheless is found in a difficult situation. For political reasons, he did not find it convenient to emphasize too much his ethnic identity during his campaign; so as to not create ill will between other groups.

Those responsible for running his campaign took care to emphasize during the fight that his goal was “to be become mayor of all the angelinos without preferences to any group”, said Nathan James, his secretary of press

Horsecrap. The stupid white people allowed this to happen, and will continue to allow this to happen by continuing to vote for these candidates, or by not voting at all. The ethnic politicians have nothing to fear from John and Jane Q. Whitebread. It's compaaaaaaasionate to give away the country!!! Anything else would be...raaaaaaaaacist!!!

Is Villaraigosa's father an illegal immigrant, or a legal immigrant? They don't say, so it is safe to assume he is an illegal immigrant.

I agree the stupid white people will not have the guts to challenge Villariagosa.

My guess is that the outrage will be greater when he leaves than when he arrived.

I was going to search the article for the word 'illegal'. Does this word (or rather the Spanish equivalent) show up at all in it?

You have some interesting posts here.

I like the one on las TV novelas.

but that overrepresentation of EurosPuros on Latin American TV is the norm everywhere down there and on Telemundo and Univision here.

Remember Dona Beija in Brasil?

Did ya'll get that one?

I was living in Rio then and had a date with Maite Proenca...she coulda cared less about me though..lol

ohh, don't know it is selfdating or selfquoting, anyway, the latinamerican media has a overwhelming population of pure european some still with dual nationality (like ludwika paletta a polish rised in mexico) because the owners are also white the bad thing is than no latin american is claiming this as racist even though the only countries really white are costa rica and argentina, I don't have anything against whites but it piss me off when some european or argentinean comes to mexico and everyone here welcome them with red carpet only to see them badmouth about "the whole place" once they are again in their country it also piss me off those go take the fact of not being white in some sort of victim complex to black mail others. I'm mestizo it really means something aside my racial background? no it doesn't.
