Possible land mines found in Raleigh (Jack-Booted Thug Alert)

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Federal agents seized what they believe were six land mines from a storage unit leased by a Raleigh man and former Fort Bragg soldier who was arrested last week in Halifax County, Virginia, for having homemade bomb and an assault rifle.

A search warrant made public Monday said the storage unit was one of two that contained explosives. The other unit was in Danville, Va.

Christopher F. Kent, 29, was arrested Thursday in Virginia. Kent was detained when an investigator with the Halifax County Sheriffs Office encountered him inside a 1997 Honda Accord on the side of the road near Turbeville, Va.

Authorities found chemicals and explosives in storage units in Raleigh and Danville, Virginia. Kent told the officer he had a gun in the glove box of the car and gave permission for the vehicle to be searched.

After the investigator saw a fuse for a homemade bomb on the floorboard, he obtained a search warrant and seized from the car an SKS assault rifle, a homemade bomb made with a plastic spice container, and a $149 kit to make 50 M-80s, according to a search warrant executed by a Raleigh-based agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

M-80s are illegal firecrackers.

On Friday, agents searched a storage unit in Raleigh after finding a receipt for it in Kent's car. A business card in the Raleigh unit led investigators to the Danville unit.

Halifax County, Va., Sheriff Jeff Oakes said agents found a rifle, various kinds of ammunition and more types of explosives in Danville.

ATF agents were trying to determine if the explosives were real, said Mike Campbell, ATF spokesman.

Kent is being held without bail in Virginia on a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Federal charges are pending while agents await the results of the testing, Campbell said.

Authorities are not sure why Kent had the explosives, Campbell said.

After the traffic stop Thursday, Kent told Halifax County investigators that he collected guns. He also said he was moving back to his home state, Oregon, and was headed to Danville to put things in a storage unit.

Survival equipment such as tents, food rations, sleeping bags, hunting items and materials used to start fires was found in the car.

"There was every item you could think of to survive in the wilderness," said Maj. Richard Pulliam of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Kent told investigators that he bought the M-80 kit at a gun show held in Raleigh May 7-8 and made his living selling items on the Internet, according to the warrant.

Kent gave Virginia authorities a Sherwood, Ore., address. But a neighbor of Kent's address in Raleigh said Kent recently broke up with his girlfriend and had been staying in area hotels.

Records show Kent served in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg from July 2000 to June 2001. In Cumberland County, Kent was charged, convicted and fined in 2003 for two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, according to court records.

Something sounds wrong here, at the least.

Sounds like this guy is getting rail-roaded by overzealous local police and jack-booted BATFAGS.

The headline, the story, and the News14 Carolina video clip don't jibe with each other. The headline says "Possible Land Mines Found In Raleigh". The first paragraph says, "Federal agents seized what they BELIEVE (emphasis added) were six land mines". You'd THINK that these "experts" would be able to tell IMMEDIATELY if these were real land mines (of course, the IMPLICATION is that this former soldier absconded with land mines from his base and hid them away in a storage building, to later use them against an unsuspecting society). And the info-babe on the news cast clip never mentioned actual or possible "land mines", but merely said that some "dangerous materials" (probablt blackpowder for his muzzleloader, and the like) were found in the guy's belongings.

Also, the story says that Halifax County Sheriffs deputies found a handgun and an SKS in the guys car. The info-babe reported that a pistol and an AK-47 was found. So which is it? A semi-auto SKS that even Bill Clinton didn't include in his so-called "Assault Weapons Ban", or a full-auto AK-47 as the newsreader implied?

And then there's the assertion that they found a "home-made bomb" by News14 Carolina, but the story says, "the investigator saw a fuse for a home-made bomb", and then later the story says that they "seized a home-made bomb made with a PLASIC SPICE CONTAINER (emphasis added)". BOY, this guy sounds DANGEROUS, doesn't he? They also said they found "a $149 kit to make 50 M-80" FIRECRACKERS. WOW! Call in the BATF, the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, and Barney Fife on this one! Of all the "terrorists" I've heard about, this guy definitely needs to be tortured for information. You know, get him NEKID, put womens panties on his head, a dog collar around his neck, and force him to make cheerleader-like pyramids with other terrorists!

It all sounds like hyped-up BULL-SHIT to me.

First of all, it's a travesty and a shame there are anti-gun, anti-2nd Amendment, anti-self-defense laws out there that allow a guy that served his country (or any law-biding citizen for that matter) to inadvertantly run afoul of such wrong-headed unconstitutional laws.

And for what? Is the fuse for a f'ing FIRECRACKER, and perfectly LEGAL weapons "concealed" inside his personal property, HIS car, enough to get someone arrested? Apparently so.

Is having camping and "survival" gear enough to make the "authorities" think your a terrorist nutcase? Apparently so.

Is breaking up with your girlfriend, living in hotels, using a storage unit prior to a move, and being a former soldier enough to highlight you as a possible danger to society? Apparently so.

Is being charged, convicted, and fined for carrying concealed, i.e. taking responsibility for your own protection when you know police are merely there to take a report AFTER the crime is committed and you are DEAD, enough of a crime to make you a suspect for mass mayhem and murder? Apparently so.

Is going to gun shows and being a gun collector a crime? Apparently so.

Is THIS our America? Apparently so.

Illegal firecrackers.

Yes, that's what the multi-billion dollar BATFag budget gets you these days: A "crime" unworthy of being written up be the lowliest small town cop.

So here's how to kill two birds with one stone: Announce an immediate RIF of 50,000 BATFags, IRS agents, and other random second-tier FLEOs. And they only get a severance package if they voluteer for the Army.

Instant infrantry division. Destination, Teheran.

My first thoughts exactly. Anyone searching my home would find the same things. Guns, tents, food rations, camping and survival gear. All of it is equipment I use as a Boy Scout leader.

You can buy dummy land mines at flea markets all over. They aren't as common as dummy grenades but they still can be easily obtained.

From what it sounds like he has, he could be a your typical airsoft or paintball gamer who also collect guns... a lot of airsoft folks like to shoot off firecrackers for the sound of combat..

I will withhold final judgment (against him or the police) until I know if he had real land mines and real illegal explosives and not just kid stuff.

As the court/jury hopefully will, I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Given their track record, I will consider the BATFEces agents guilty until proven innocent.

M-80 kit:
little red tubes.
hot melt glue.
aluminum powder.
saltpeter.
model rocket fuses.
instructions.
$150??? The guy got ripped off.

My childhood consisted of diverting hobby materials (Estes rocket engines and fuses, Testor's paint jars) to making noise.

Got to make work when you've got a few trillion dollars in your budget and not allowed to prosecute Muzzlems or go after
OTMs and other illegal aliens, narco terrorists, murderers, rapists..etc etc etc...

The story is a complete hatchet job on a former soldier
full of distortions and lies making him out to be a terrorist
a traitor and a thief..

disgusting but typical propaganda piece of work...

both the govt. and the propagandists should be ashamed of themselves..but they seem to work nicely together

Goebels would be proud....

imo

an SKS assault rifle

No such thing.

materials used to start fires was found in the car.

Like what, exactly? Matches? Butane lighters? Sticks that could be rubbed together?

There was every item you could think of to survive in the wilderness,"

Well, the guy's obviously a nut, and needs to be locked up. </sarcasm>

Worse, gasoline was found in his car. This material can be used to produce fuel-air bombs with explosive power similar to those of small nukes.

this line among other made me pi**ed. The BATF is a nest of sadists -- men who couldn't tell you the meaning of the 2nd, 4th and 5th Amendments. Ruby Ridge will always make my blood boil. I honestly don't know how those that work for the BATF sleep at night. They all think they are part of some COPS show. The kill means more to them than the Constitution or the Liberties of the hard working citizens of this Republic. And to think we pay their generous pensions. Disgusting.

Funny, my childhood consisted of blowing up my Star Wars and GI Joe action figures with firecrackers or finding out how many bottle rockets could send an action figure into space..

I suppose in this day and age, I would be arrested..

You better be very careful. The Boy Scouts now meet the definition of a criminal street gang.

If the comic book collector types know what I did to first generation Star Wars action figures, they would issue a fatwa against me..

My best friend in school and I used to blow up plastic model cars with black cats.

Glad I laid down terrorism.
