Coalition warplanes destroy insurgent command center near Fallujah

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) Coalition warplanes fired precision-guided missiles near Fallujah on Saturday, destroying two unoccupied buildings that the military identified as an insurgent command center. U.S. Marines based in the area said the targeted buildings were about 20 miles northwest of Fallujah, the scene of a large scale November campaign west of Baghdad to rout militants responsible for multiple attacks. ''Coalition aircraft today bombed two unoccupied buildings outside Fallujah that had been used as an insurgent command center, weapons hide site and detention and possible torture facility,'' the military said in a statement. It was unclear what country the planes came from or if the attack caused any casualties. Fallujah is 40 miles west of Baghdad. Ground forces inspected the site after the bombings and discovered mortar rounds, machine gun ammunition, homemade bomb making materials and anti-coalition propaganda, the statement added.

They searched the building after the airstrike....they were looking for someone I'll bet.

The only thing I'm disappointed about is that the buildings were un-occupied at the time.

Sounds like a strike against a detected satellite phone of note.

If the bad guys were smart enough to use a phone relay, then the building that we bombed may have really been unoccupied...otherwise, you can bet that we got someone important enough to not tip our hand right now.

Let's hope they found him (Zarqawardly) there, and a little bit more over there, and some more over yonder...

I fully agree with you: the war is not with the buildings but with excremists who are sometimes found within them. Thus the counting unit ought to be enemy body bags, not buildings.

Sometimes the things fleeing people leave behind are almost as good.

Sadr wasn't in Fallujah. He's a Shi'ite. Those guys were Sunni.

I think he's been bought off ~ which in Iraq might mean somebody important is holding his family hostage, or maybe holding his money hostage@!

Since "command center" and "unoccupied" don't really make much sense, I'd guess you hit the nail on the head here.

Either that or the cockroaches scattered in the nick of time.

I think the Iraqi people are fed up to here with "insurgents" from other countries breezing into town to mass murder Iraqi children and other civilians. I think there are Iraqis who are p'd off enough to do some real dirty work, aka covert, aka spying. And who better? They speak the language and can fit right in.

Yeah, I think our intel is going to get better and better.

Just my opinion. I want body bags, not empty buildings. Making personal attacks does not make a point. I have my opinion, as you do. And I respect you and your opinion. Please try to return the favor. Be well and be safe , you and yours. :)

Jeff
