PALM BAY, Fla. -- A Palm Bay girl was attacked on her way to school Friday morning. She told police a man with a knife chased her into some woods and tried to assault her. That man is still on the run.
Police said the 13-year-old girl was walking to her middle school when she noticed a man in a truck was following her and pulled off of the road. She turned onto a side street and she said he actually jumped out and chased her into nearby woods. That's where, she said, the man pulled a knife and tried to sexually assault her.
The girl said she was kicking and screaming and he eventually ran off. She went home and her father called 9-1-1.
Police said the girl did have some defensive cuts on her forearms, but she was not sexually assaulted.
Police searched, but did not find the knife. They also put out a vehicle description for an old rusted blue work truck driven by an older man with a scruffy white beard. They also notified school resource officers and went door to door.
Some of the neighbors were even driving around looking for the truck. They said they've seen it in the area before.
Florida Today (posting not allowed) says older white male, grey hair and scruffy grey beard, white t-shirt and jeans, rusted out blue truck similar to a work truck.

I'm surprised they said "white-male". When I was driving home from work the other day, the radio newsman was talking about a bank robber, who was approximately 5'11", dark hair, dark eyes wearing a blue shirt, blah..blah..blah.. So I guess we were supposed to be on the lookout for all males, excluding Swedish ones....

Sounds like a good defensive measure to me.
It says she had defensive cuts and there are a lot of undeveloped lots in the area. Plenty of places where it could occur as reported. It may be a hoax but until that's proven, this one must be taken seriously. Only 7 more school days.
If they don't say the race we can assume the person is either black or Hispanic. On one of our local TV stations I always am on the alert for descriptions of suspects and call them on the carpet for it. Seems they always have a reason for not saying black or Hispanic, even though at times, they have a camera shot of the individual.
