Truly a haunting movie.
Pure raw emotion.
I cried after the movie at man's inhumanity to man. It was supposed to end after WWII, wasn't it? Weren't we never to forget the holocaust? Weren't we supposed to never let it happen again?
Where was the help from the world?
>>Where was the help from the world?<<
Amen!
Hotel Rwanda serves as the greatest indictment of UN "peacekeepers" since that Bircher film about Katanga in the 60s.
Knowledge. That is the greatest way to stop this things, because as long as they remain 'hidden' they will surely go on. Shedding light on these issues is worth more than anything else any individual can do.
Good movie.
BTW the reason I said 'knowledge' is the greatest thing (as in for people to become aware of what is going on) is because once enough people do the killings will drop greatly. While the Sudan and the Congo will probably never gain any semblance of paradise the things going on there would never happen (to the same extent that they are) if the eye of the world was turned on them. Not even one boot is needed, simply just for people to know what is going on there. Because the people behind the killings will, at the very least, curtail their activities due to the increased scrutiny coming their way. The spread of awareness will probably save more lives than anything else, and it is quite obvious that as long as the Sudan situation is ignored and the Congo situation unknown then the killings will continue unabated. Thus I'd say the greatest thing that can be done by an everday individual is awareness of the situations, and the propagation of that awareness.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I will pass it along as I can.
Consider, we go into Muslum countries, and their gratitude of being freed from oppressors results in them killing us. Every time we run in to the rescue, we end up burying scores of good Americans; and the people we went in to help, take delight in butchering and violating the corpses of our men.
We have crowds hanging innocent contractors from bridges, and we have suicide bombers taking out soldiers. What is happening is horrific; but we aren't dealing with a rational culture are we?
I did too, just this past weekend. Fortunately, having been a long time freeper reading all that has been made available here on Africa, I had an idea on what to look for.
Yes, the movie haunts me too but it was a typical diluted account of what went on there.
I am not certain when that movie was made but the end credits made reference that the violence was ended which you and I both know is still ongoing to a more severe degree. It also could have accentuated more of the absolute irrelevance that the U.N. played at that time and its continued irrelevance.
The fact that they headlined Nick Nolte in that film shows how desperate they were to draw attention to it. Nolte looked like he had at least a day to shower and shave after his DUI arrest but after all was said and done, his role in the film was minor.......
I still liked it and can't help but think about the helplessness those poor survivors must have been feeling - and still feeling to this day........
Another reason why I thank God every night that I live in the best country in the world!
The DELIBERATE unreported holocost of the 21st century........
