That sounds really suspicious. The SS didn't notice a guy pick up a grenade with a pin removed? Not to mention that I am sure there was a SS person standing next to every Georgian guard. What did this guy do when he picked up this grenade? Calmly walk away with an armed grenade? I think this story is not complete.

Yes, the story does sound strange. And someone posted above that the Secret Service didn't even find out until they left the country. Very weird.

If SS didn't notice, then it PROBABLY was a dud or dummy. On the other hand... "Kaboom? Somebody say they hear a kaboom? I didn't hear a kaboom! What, you didn't either?"
