On this day in 1942, U.S. Lieutenant General Jonathan Wainwright surrenders all U.S. troops in the Philippines to the Japanese.

Jonathan Wainwright was born the son of a cavalry officer and a descendant in a line of distinguished U. S. Naval officers on August 23, 1883 at Fort Walla Walla, Washington Territory.

A sad, sad day in our armed forces history. To be truthful, Mac should have been court-martialed for his foul up in his non-defense of the Phillipines.

Wainwright also should have been given the heave-ho for his less-than-inspiring defense of Corrigadore. Almost immediately as soon as the Japanese invaders landed on Carrigadore the Americans surrendered. Shame on them.

If they had put up half the fight the Japanese did defending the island in February of '45 the Japanese wouldn't have taken "the rock" until '44!!! Okay, a slight exageration, but you get my point.
