On this day in 1942, U.S. Lieutenant General Jonathan Wainwright surrenders all U.S. troops in the Philippines to the Japanese.
Wainwright also should have been given the heave-ho for his less-than-inspiring defense of Corrigadore. Almost immediately as soon as the Japanese invaders landed on Carrigadore the Americans surrendered. Shame on them.
If they had put up half the fight the Japanese did defending the island in February of '45 the Japanese wouldn't have taken "the rock" until '44!!! Okay, a slight exageration, but you get my point.
May 7th 1942 ---Battle of Coral Sea!!! Nippon forces thwarted in attempt to support taking of Port Moresby. Lady Lex goes down.
