I assure you if you could walk on Pendleton or Lejeune and rub skins with them you would weep. They truely inbody the best our country has! It was a true honor for me to talk and shake hands with many of those warriors upon a earlier deployment to the pit. A little true story.
Last October, after six days of coming home, the last busses from the 2nd Marine Regiement 2nd Battalion (2/2) got off the busses at Camp Lejeune. About an hour or so after all the families that attended the welcome home ceremonies, got to get re-aquainted with their Marines, and many where setting into their new barrack areas, moving their gear to rooms etc.. I was standing around where my nephews barracks was at, after helping lug his gear to the fourth floor of the bld. Anyway. All of a sudden there was a very very loud boooooom. Must have been artilery practice down range, south of main camp area. There was total silence, all stop what they where doing, remember there where literally hundreds of Marines moving around on the ground and up and down the buildings. Total silence. Time stood still for a few seconds. Then above me I heard one Marine shoot rather loudly, hey fuck that shit..........we don't need that crap anymore! A second one that was also on a balconly directly above me said...... yea....your damn right buddy.
I stand at attention and smartly salute each one of them.
They earn their pay with honor and commitement.
