Moro group hits arrival of US troops in Sulu (Mindanao front in WOT heating up)

A militant Moro party-list group branded as a “prelude to an intensified military intervention” in southern Philippines the arrival in Sulu of 25 American military personnel.

“We refused to believe that the US military is surveying Sulu for humanitarian reasons. The US government does not give away anything for free or charity. It gives because it wants to conquer and gain more profit for its war agenda in Mindanao,” said Cosain Naga, spokesperson for the Suara Bangsamoro Party-List.

Naga stressed that the arrival of the US military personnel “is part of US plan to establish influence and forces to advance its military and economic interests in Mindanao and other parts of Asia Pacific regions.”

The group said the US spy teams and advisers “have significantly contributed to the massive destruction and suffering in Sulu.”

“The US has all the motives to refuel the war between the Moro rebel groups in Mindanao and the government forces in order to justify its maneuvering and actual implementation of military affairs in Mindanao,” it added.

At the same time, the group also condemned the creation of a new ‘vigilante’ group tasked to run after suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf and other alleged terror groups in Mindanao.

Suara Party-list secretary-general Amira Lidasan said the ‘Bag-ong Ilaga’, patterned after the group created in the 1970s by the Manero brothers in North Cotabato, “will sow disunity in an already polarized Mindanao, especially among Muslims and Christians.”

“We also condemn those groups who are behind the creation of Bag-ong Ilaga who believed that through this vigilante group Mindanao will have order and security and will be freed from any terror attack. That is a big lie,” said Lidasan in a radio interview.

In Davao City, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has called on Bag-ong Ilaga (literally New Rat) to remain calm and not engage in any terrorist activity. He also called on the government to closely monitor this group and its supposed counterpart among Muslims to avoid further conflict.

Mindanao just one of a dozen fronts in the war on terror that exists beyond the grasp/understanding of the MSM. Unlike Iraq and Afghanistan, US forces here on the attack -- with small American combat elements engaging the enemy every day.

Resurrecting Bag-ong Ilaga a stroke of genius as it permits US forces deniability when they are forced to liquidate al-Qaeda elements in the field. With the opposition increasingly growing bolder, it is unlikely the DC policy wonks will concern themselves with any paperwork irregularities the heightened terrorist body count will generate.

Like the Phoenix, this Program seems to rise from the ashes. Postmodern is as postmodern does...

A militant Moro party-list group

These were the folks the .45ACP cartridge and the 1911 pistol were developed to take care of. The Army had replaced the old .45 (long) Colt single action revolvers with then modern .38 special revolvers. The Muslim Moros, hopped up on drugs, were not dispatched sufficiently with the somewhat anemic .38 rounds. The design requirement for the .45 ACP were to meet or exceed the ballistic performance of the old .45 (long) Colt.

I suspect the current 9mm (with FMJ) is little better than the old .38, but I also suspect many of the US forces in the Philippines are armed with .45 ACP pistols of one sort or another. I also suspect that the .45 ACP will still do the job on them.

They brought back those .45 LC back into theater do deal with the Moros. I think the Moros would be better dusted with some steel core .223 from an M-4. In close quarter combat, the pistol was a better handler than the 'ol Krag rifle. The low supply of Krags also had .45-70 Trapdoor in service too. The M-4 is just as quick as drawing out a sidearm.

An oft repeated saying among American troops during the insurrection was "... Krag 'em and bag 'em."

Today? "Killing is not a chore with my M-4!"

Definitely the carbine is preferable to a pistol. I've also seen pics of folks in Iraq and Afghanistan armed with shotguns. But there are times when you might not have the carbine or shotgun, or be in one of those few situations where the carbine is less handy than a handgun, which you can wear. One of the former shooting buddies of several of the folks at work (an Army post where I'm a contractor) recently sent back pics of his combat gear (and he's only TDY on what is essentially a support mission). He carries both a rifle (couldn't get an M-4 so has an M-16A2, but he also has his sidearm, unfortunately the M9, on a lanyard no less. He's also added various knives, maglites, etc, etc. He even sent pics of how he's got it all organized on his vest and person. A definite "gear head" type. A good shot though, according to those he shot with.

The US military has advanced light years since the Spanish-American War...the Moros haven't. That's a good thing.
