Deport them all. And let's make sure there's really a worker shortage before we start a guest worker program.

We already know that in states such as California and Texas more than 25% of the prison population is made up of illegal aliens who have committed everything from drug running to murder. Other states also report large numbers of incarcerated aliens. We know these criminals abound within the hoards that race across our undefended boundaries

Facts that the "they come here to do jobs Americans won't do" crowd conveniently ignores.

Deporting them all is impractical, haven't you heard?

Sometime around the late 40s, Americans had a major transformation, embracing the instinct for survival only if convenient and "practical">.

It's too soon to tell if this kinder gentler approach will work.

Me? I would gladly pay 50% more in taxes if I could choose to have all of it spent to deal with this particular impracticality.

Take for example the state of New Mexico. From what is heard, there seem to be many "safe harbors" there. The state reports there are 1,903,289 illegal aliens in New Mexico.

This is an amazing fact, considering that the US Census Bureau lists NM's 2003 population at 1,874,614. I guess that means that I'm an illegal alien...

Good idea. And their employer should pick up the cost of education for their children and health care.

Has anyone bothered to ask the INS what is the average cost to deport an illegal alien?

I know, they never tried it, so they might not have the numbers handy.
Maybe it's time they tried?

"The guys in power -- both parties- are not interested in prosecuting the people who hire illegal aliens. If they would crack down on that front we should see a lot fewer illegal immigrants. Look at what happens when the police crack down on Johns as well as hookers. The problems shrink tremendously."
=======
This idea is not only hypocritical, it is not solving the problem. The problem lies with enforcing immigration law and securing the border, accompanied with running out all the illegals that do not want to properly apply for worker visas or citizenship. Once THE REAL PROBLEM is solved, then going after companies that hire them, would be far more effective. I think attention to the border issue needs to come first. If you want to save a sinking ship, don't worry about penalizing the captain, until you fix the leak !!!

"The state reports there are 1, 903, 289 illegal aliens in New Mexico. If it can provide such expect numbers right down to the individual, they must have all been counted. If they can be counted....they can be apprehended."

Excellent point!!

cheap vegetables?

It's costing taxpayers NINE BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR in California alone to allow illegals to stay here!
And at those prices we could FLY every illegal alien in America home and still be ahead of the game at the end of the year.

Until we secure the borders and ports, fine employers who hire illegals, deport all the illegals including the incarcerated and enforce the immigration laws of this country there will never be a victory in the "war on drugs", there will never be a victory in the "war on terrorism" and there will definitely never be "homeland security!"

Vicente Fox needs to start solving Mexico's problems instead of dumping them on our back porch.
Fox certainly doesn't tolerate aliens crossing Mexico's southern border.

President Bush, do your job, enforce the laws and deport the illegals and secure the borders.
Ike did it, so can you!

Semper Fi,
Kelly

I'm all for deporting them. However, what do we do with the children that were born here from those illegals?

Texas is getting bled dry as well. For the pittance illegals contribute to the economy, they use up a disproportionate amount of emergency medical, legal, and social services costs as well.

I still think the US annexing Mexico is a viable option. Kick out the smack tards currently running it and get the people of Mexico a REAL government. It'd also open up a lot of business opportunities for US citizens that are not currently available under Vincente's criminal enterprise.

Do you know what the numbers are?
I would be curious to know exactly how much illegals are costing TX,AZ,NM?

$9B for Cali. $4.7B for Texas. Since their economies are smaller, probably around half that for AZ and NM each.

Okay, this may be a stupid question, but I live 2000 miles from the border, so humor me.

Is some sort of fence or wall impractical? Too ugly? Too expensive? I guess electrified is inhumane, huh? I assume someone has presented this before.
