A 78 year old Pope. What the hell are they thinking? How idiotic.

why take the name Benedict if he wanted to "head off the problem" - wasn't that part of the prophecy?

And so the death watch commences.... may our Holy Father live in good health to be 120.

Amen.

I stayed up last night to watch CNN's televised interviews with six or seven of our American Cardinals.

If you think Mahoney is uttering praises... you should have heard McCommick words of adoration and respect... all of which I hope he meant. For reasonss unbeknowst to me, I actually think McCommick was talking sincerely. Amazing, huh?

They WILL kiss the ring...

that's the poop on the popes i get from my doom and gloom guy too...

wasn't there a prophet who proclaimed the list of all the pope's from peter to the last one who will also be called peter... seems to me that they have a list of names that they are pretty much obligated to adhere to...

we live in interesting times.

Take it up with the Holy Spirit -- I'm sure you know better than God!

They just can't stand it, the media. I can't recall who said it, but the media have just been chomping at the bit waiting for an appropriate amt time to pass after Pope JPII's death so they could rant, and hopeful for a progressive they held up a bit, now that they're disappointed, the tantrum spew begins. The rabid unleashing of the unholy.

According to the article on the prophecies of St. Malachy in the old Catholic Encyclopedia, there are 112 predictions beginning with Pope Celestine II, who was elected in St. Malachy's lifetime...there haven't been 112 popes since then unless you count the antipopes.

The article points out that the prophecy doesn't state clearly that there are no popes between gloria olivae and Petrus Romanus (supposed to be the last pope). In any case, the prophecies were unknown to St. Bernard, who wrote a life of St. Malachy (1094-1148) and they were only "discovered" in 1590.

Jesus said that neither the angels in heaven nor the Son knew the day and the hour (Mark 13:32). But St. Malachy knew it all?

Hey everybody, look on the bright side! If Benedict XVI does have a short reign, it's that much sooner that we get to see the libs heartbroken all over again when he is succeeded by Pius XIII!

A humble bishop will not allow his ring to be kissed.

And who would be the braindead cardinal who would pick that name?

I can't speak for frogjerk, but my comments addressed
the lavish praise heaped upon the new Pope by the cardinals
I watched last night on CNN. Some of the remarks could
rightfully be called "sucking up."

It sounded like cluelessness, to me.

Cardinal Maida, of Detroit, said that "Benedict XVI will reach out, somehow."

The expectation is JPII. The result will be a combination of Pius XII, theologically, and Paul VI, in personality.

I think it was Mahoney who called him a genius (he is);
McCarrick's comments were lengthy and lavish; like over compensating.
I think Egan's were totally sincere.
Maida seemed off putting to me.

I'm praying he'll live a healthy life to perhaps age 120.
I think he's great and terribly underestimated by detractors.

I love you, but you have taken leave of your senses.

Ratzinger knows he's a place-holder, and will do nothing dramatic.
