I LOVE Ratzinger! I hope he DOES become pope, but I don't think it'll happen. He's very conservative and really knows his stuff. Most of the Cardinals think very highly of him, too. Don't let a little snippet of video guide your opinion of this fine man.

Olive pope, mhm, black or green.

There is an old saying: He who enters a conclave as a Pope exits as a Cardinal.

Cardinal Lustiger from France was born Jewish, as I recall, and converted.

The olive means that the new Pope might have olive skin or come from a group where many have olive skin.

Believers in the prophecy will twist whatever happens so that they can say it fits "what was foretold". It happens all the time, the believers in Nostradamus claim that it you take happening X and make changes Y to it, you can see that Nostradamus "predicted it". As some one said," Seer's into the future have great hindsight.

I'm not a Catholic but was born in an area that a large portion of people were (between New Orleans and Mobile) so I am fairly familiar with the church but had never heard this about St. Malachy. Kind of reminds me of the visions of the Sisters of Fatima.....can't have too much of that info getting out!
Thanks NYer for the listing...very interesting!!!

I think you meant Pope Olive, unless you've secretly got a thing for her. :-)

So what does Ratzinger have to do with olives?

Judging from you post it looks like Malachy's accuracy is about 25%.

One good thing my friend Rossi told me , if we get the Olive Pope it won't be long before the arrival of the Martini Pope.

Maybe he will be a sour and rotund man given to eating pimentoes or, perhaps, a martini drinker.

if the new Pope, whoever he may be, has ever used an Olivetti typewriter at some time in his past - look out; another prophesy fulfilled.
To: Dave Burns; NYer
Olive Pope also has been referred to as a Marian component, not sure how, so the thinking is that the next Pope could really emphasize Mary and the devotions to her.

There are some serious problems with these Prophecies. It has all the hallmarks of a pious hoax.

NBC just had some priest on talking about the selection and the upcoming conclave. (Father Reese)
He spoke of the secrecy, and said he's not a fan of it. He went onto say that the Cardinals would never lobby for themselves, but get other Cardinals to do it for them.
So much for praying to the Holy Spirit for guidance.
To: NYer
Malachy sounds an awful lot like Malarkey.
