Savage's dirty promotion tactics?

Posted on 04/14/2005 10:34:04 PM PDT by RepublicanAttackMachine

I read somewhere that Savage told his audience to call into Rush's, Sean's, and Mark Levin's radio shows for the sole purpose of promoting his book. Does anyone know if this is true?

I would find it a bit cheap as it is if a general nobody asked their fans to do the same on these 3 men's shows. But someone like Savage, who has spent the last 6 months doing nothing but blasting these three? Its a cheap and dirty tactic, if it is true.

Sounds like something Hannity would do.

Nope, he didn't. He encouraged his listeners to call up other talk shows to see how their call screeners would react, since Savage's book is released this month and that fact arguably makes Savage news.

Savage (and most in his audience) didn't expect anyone to get past the screeners and on the air. It was just a test to see how the radio show screeners consider Dr. Savage.

Hey, if it's cheap and dirty, it's definitely Savage.

On another note, does anyone know if Savage actually sent the $50,000 to Lt. Pantano like he said he was, or was that just another cheap and dirty promotional trick, too?

I've grown tired of the way Savage badmouths Rush. Savage has no respect for the trail Rush blazed for talk radio and what he has done for the Conservative movement.
I dislike the way savage treats many of his callers depending on his mood. Recently a woman called his show who obviously was very nervous and was a huge fan of Savage. She gushed a moment or two about how much she liked him, the show and so one and the guy hung up on her. He said " Oh - God, I cant take it. I just cant take it!! " and began a rant about the woman.
I'll usually listen to his show on Fridays before I go out. On Friday's he more often in a good mood, plays some great 1950's rock, tells a few stories and shares some laughs.

Golly gee, ya think so?

IMO, Hannity would do anything to pimp his wares. His deliberately ignoring the complete lack of evidence that doctor he interviewed was a Nobel nominee while bashing others in the Media for not checking facts (he's using this sound bite in promos) robs him of any credibility he might've had. To my knowledge he never corrected the record. He was a complete whore during the Schiavo case.

Who needs a test for that? He's nuts!

I disagree, I heard Savage ask people to say whatever they must to get on the air, and then to bring up Savage's book when they get on. He offered some sort of reward for anyone who accomplishes it. He was going on that they won't discuss him or his book on those shows.

I didn't think it was classy. All these guys are hawking their own books and coffee mugs. It's understandable they don't play up their competitors' merchandise.

Imagine the money Savage is desperately trying to make with this book and you can understand why he went over the top. For my part, I will pick his book up and thumb through it in the bookstore, just like he suggests. Of course he hopes you'll buy it then but really, do any of these books hold any surprises for people who listen to the shows? I looked at Hannity's book once and it was conservatism for dummies.

Regarding Rush, what has he done LATELY? He's most definitely not on the cutting edge of societal evolution any longer. His hearing loss and "doctor shopping" scandal have defanged him. It's very unfortunate. He was once a very good, very entertaining host.

I can't stand Savage's style because he's too abrasive. However, he hammers quite well on the "borders, language, culture" importance if America is to remain the great nation it was for its first 200 years.

"borders, language, culture"

Savages above message is one I agree with 100%. Its just a shame his overall style is like a boot in the teeth. This isnt a wise crack but do a Freep search on Rush. There have been a number of threads on how Rush has been fired up and very good the last few days. I've only heard part of Rush's show these days as baseball season has begun. During the season I listen to all the mindless chatter, fights and facts battered about on the local Sports radio program.
( your on the drudge ping list, correct? I recognize your name )

I think Savabe gets bored doing his show and takes it out on callers. He's just doing it for the money. When Friday rolls around, he's happier becuse the weekend is near.

Oh, your rigth about Savage and the weekend!~ You can hear it in his voice. Usually at about the time he plays " speedo " on Friday night ( about 7:00 PM ) I slow down my work week and crack open an icy cold beer. I think Savage enjoys the Vino.

- granted I work out of my house, by myself, so cracking open a beer at the home / office at the end of the work week is no big deal.
My earlier post might have led people to think " That guy drinks at work??? "

The guy's a genius - but close to being nuts, too. When he goes on a philosophy-of-life riff, he can be startlingly wise and insightful. But he can also have outbursts of self-centered arrogance.

I think we all have great respect for Rush and what he ahs done for the movement, but he seems in some ways, on some issues, to have lost his edge. The charge that Savage makes that Rush is just a promoter for the Republican Party is not as far from the truth as Rush's friends and fans would like to believe. He seems to be developing a bit of a star complex.

I dislike the way savage treats many of his callers depending on his mood.

He can be rough sometimes, but he does tend to get more than his share of RDDBs and other troublemakers, and I can understand having only a limited amount of patience with people who babble. And Savage takes on issues that Rush and Sean, much as we love both of them, won't take on. All their voices are needed.

Sean, however, did a great job on the Terri Schiavo case.

You're saying Rush has lost his edge? I'd go along with that. He's still the most powerful conservative voice out ther, and he does a lot of good for the movement, but he backs off of certain subjects that need airing. And he's not as much fun now that he has virtually eliminated the updates (and the update themes), not ot mention "environmentalist wacko football picks." The worst thing Rush could do is start ot take himself seriously, and he is showing signs of doing it.

Savage has only been on in my market for about one maybe two years. His screener seems to have done a great job as I so rarely hear or have heard the hard Left and so forth get through to the airwaves. Maybe earlier he had many people getting through and harrassing him?
My example of the woman should have explained better that she was simply happy to speak to him and hadn't taken more than 30 seconds before he started loosing it. I imagined the woman had tried to call his show, finally got through and was thrilled to speak to someone she so admired. To be treated so rudely must have been a shock.
I've heard callers say " Hello Dr. Savage! How are you today! " and Savage looses it. " Look....dont call this program asking how my day is - just get to your point!". On other occasions someone politely states about the same greeting and its not an issue at all.
I've also heard the guy ripping his programmer or producer or whomever it is working for him over a piece of music. " Ok - play some rock and roll " ( 15 seconds of music ) " What is that? What are you doing - I said Rock and Roll! Do you have any idea what your doing??". Its not like the programmer opened up with a piece of Opera. he played some 1950's rock as requested.
Savage often speaks about a more civil and polite society which has vanished. He misses that time period and I wish I might have personally known it. But to hear him be quite impolite and uncivil to people who work for or call him is something I can not understand.
