Hey!!!! I know Homer, he sailed with me on my boat Georgia Peach with a mutual friend of ours. Homer was also a tank platoon leader in Vietnam.

Now that's something I'd get out of the house and go to.... if it wasn't in such a far off place. ~sigh~
Still cool happening there.

I have not yet read the book, but the movie was a solid film.

It's too bad that Jake Gylenhall has turned out to be so weird, he was great in that movie.

Homer Hickam to Speak at NASA GlennI refuse to call it by that name. I think Bush should re-rename it back to NASA Lewis

"October Sky" is one of my favorite movies. Although I must admit that I now get angry while watching it since it is about an America that no longer exists.
If Homer grew up in police state Amerika 2005, here's how things would have played out:
He would have been taken from his parents since dad put him to work in the coal mines.
He'd have been put on Ritalin for being "too active".
If he launched a rocket (or even brought one to school), he would get expelled, and possibly even get a visit from the BATFags.
His teacher would have been arrested for encouring him to shoot rockets up into the sky.

Thanks for the heads-up! I loved the movie, and since I get NASA TV, I'll be sure to record it.
