On the homosexual Day of Silence a year ago, Chase Harper, a student at Poway High School in California, wore a t-shirt to school expressing his view that homosexuality is wrong. He was sent home that day, but the Scottsdale-based Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) sued the school district on his behalf.
The Day of Silence, started in 1996 by the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), is a day when homosexual students protest silently what they consider to be the endangerment and persecution of students of different sexual orientations.
According to GLSENs website, more than 1,900 schools nationwide and more than 100,000 students participated in this event in 2002. This years protest takes place Wednesday, April 13. Participating students take a complete vow of silence for that day and refuse to respond when called on in classes. Its your taxpayer dollars at work, says Joshua Cardin, an attorney with the Alliance Defense Fund, based in Scottsdale.
This year, the ADF and Harper are inviting others to join him in a response to the Day of Silence. It is called the Day of Truth.
On Thursday, April 14, more than 500 students in 300 high schools and colleges across the United States are participating in the first annual Day of Truth. Arizona State University is among the schools participating here in the Grand Canyon State.
The Day of Truth has been established to counter the homosexual agenda and express an opposing viewpoint from the Christian viewpoint. Students will hand out cards with a message outside classrooms, claiming the truth about homosexuality cannot be silenced.
The objective of the Day of Truth is for students to stand up for their First Amendment right to hear and speak the truth about human sexuality in order to protect that freedom for future generations.
The ADF encourages students to notify their principals or other school leadership of their participation in this event. They plan to convey a message in a respectful manner that does not disrupt the educational process.
Through the web page, www.alliancedefensefund.org, students may acquire shirts and cards to pass out to their classmates outside of class. The Day of Truth is explained in a thorough and understandable manner. The website offers advice and talking points for the participating students.
On the Day of Truth, students will wear t-shirts, put up posters in their schools, distribute message cards, speak with fellow students about the truth and pray and provide hope through the love and compassion of Jesus Christ. The cards say:
I am speaking the Truth to break the silence. I believe in equal treatment for all, and not special rights for a few. I believe in loving my neighbor, but part of that love means not condoning detrimental personal and social behavior. I believe that by boldly proclaiming the Truth, hurts will be halted, hearts will be healed, and lives will be saved.
Cardin said: We want to see the message go out in positive fashion. Hate is not the intent; it is to communicate love for the person. Its the behavior we dont condone. We will speak the truth in love and obey authority.
The Day of Truth is not a Christians-only campaign. ADF encourages non-Christians to support their fellow students free speech rights.
The Alliance Defense Fund is ready for any resistance from school teachers and administrators that may ensue on April 14. Students who are denied their right of free speech are urged to obey their superiors and to phone 1-800-TELL-ADF. They will receive access to an ADF attorney and media advice.
There is some feeling that schools may say this message inappropriate, Cardin said. That would be a First Amendment violation. ADF has an army of lawyers out there, and if there is a problem ADF is prepared to help students.
Cardin said, Our response to Day of silence is: there should be no bullying, no antagonism or harassment, we can feel free to disagree, disagreement is not hate or bullying. The first Amendment protects differing points of view. We trained over 700 attorneys in these kinds of issues nationwide.
The ADF is quite familiar with the homosexual agenda. Alan Sears, president of the Alliance Defense Fund, wrote the book, The Homosexual Agenda. ADF is involved in many court cases concerning the defense of law and the constitution, including the defense of marriage, as well as infringement of the rights of Christian students, as well as other cases.
I will bite my lip and refrain from comment for the sole reason that I enjoy my FreeRepublic membership.
Yuppers, I'm leaving this one alone too lol.

Day of silence? Why, that seems like an awfully queer thing to do.
We could all cheer and toss fruit out the window.
Yep and watch your 6.
Give the little faggots a Saturday detention if they don't respond. If they refuse to respond to a teacher again they should be suspended or expelled permanently.
So... if a student isn't called on, their participation in the protest is moot because nobody knows that they're protesting?
And.... now there's one school day a year that students of this mindset are keeping their opinions to themselves?
Maybe we taxpayers should demand a semester of silence.
Tough one to reply to - I am all for respect and compassion for fellow humans, but this couldn't have come at a more amusing time personally.
I'm about to go have dinner with some teacher friends (with whom I don't talk politics, because we'd bite each other's heads off). Last week I heard them complaining because they had to say 'under God' and observe a moment of silence after the pledge for prayer - I can't wait to see how they manage explaining this one away.
"Turnabout is fair play."
"Homosexual day of silence"
Does this mean they are going to shut up?
Oh gosh, have fun!!!
I have family members who work in the schools so I am well aware of the battles that can erupt.
Actions may speak louder than words tomorrow. I'll have to ask my son's friends about this when they come over tomorrow after school.
Beat me to the punch!
Lutheran? Rock on!
Does this mean, that just for one day, that the homosexual activists will STFU?
One day... It's a good start.
Mark
I am all for this and, in fact, think it is a great idea. Actually, they should make it for an entire year. That would REALLY stick it to us evil, mean-spirited homophobes.
if only we could get them to shut up forever.
I can't imagine the turd burglars being quiet for a whole day. The love that "cannot speak its name" is now the love that "can't shut the hell up!"
