Just found it. I know a lot of us missed a lot of it. As I recall, C-Span's coverage earned kudos from Catholic Freepers.

Very kind of you to give notice, but I'm all "Pope-ed out", just as I'm "Schiavo-ed out" and generally "Death-ed out".

Spring's finally sprung up here, things are coming out of this winter's seemingly endless freeze, the Sox are on at 1:05, I have to go for a run in the sun (well, jog) to clear the cobwebs out of my brain, and get my slushy blood flowing again.

I think that Dune is a classic because it brings out all the good, heroes, loyalty, friendship ... good things about people.
I've read the whole Dune series; I THINK. I read six of the books. There are probably 50 more but the first six were enough. I've been a sci-fi buff for a long time.
It's all make-believe -- fun.

Pope John Paul II's funeral was the real thing. HE was real and he will be sorely missed.
I think many of us feel somehwat orphaned by his absence. I do.

Ah, Starfish... can you PLEASE tell me ONE person in the entire mythos you'd want to hang out with? (And Paul Atraides doesn't count; just because he's a god doesn't make him the slightest bit of interest on his own terms.)

He WAS the most handsome, after his dad was killed. Pratchnow was the best. I do like tall, dark, handsome and heroic. (I saw Kyle McDonough on "Law and Order" not too long ago. He aged pretty well. Jeez, time passes so fast!)) All the good ones, his best friend, for example, were killed off. The doctor was a traitor (His wife was kidnapped, so he had an excuse.)

The Bene Gesseret were on their own arrogant agenda. The Harkonen family was awful. The Mentats were geeks. The Fremen lived on the gawdawful Dune and were, by living there, spice addicts.

I didn't find anyONE there I'd like to hang out with, unless Paul had some handsome, nice sons or grandsons. The House Atriedes was probably the best bet for hanging out with.

Who would YOU like to hang out with, o great prophet?

Irulian, as played by the gal on the TV series, preferably on some small, isolated water planet, with a large supply of Moet and ... ahem. You get the idea.
Second choice, Jessica, same setting.

I prefer to hang out with men. They offer me, er, so much more. Tall and handsome, preferred -- young with some money or not too old. At my age, (old) I don't wanna be a "purse" or a "nurse." :o)
