HANOI JANE COMES CLEAN
The former Mrs. Ted Turner, Jane Fonda, has come out with a new book. She is making the rounds doing publicity...and she has given an interview to '60 Minutes' that will air this Sunday. In it, she admits (sort of) that she was wrong to go to North Vietnam and visit an anti-aircraft gun site used to shoot down U.S. pilots. Well isn't that nice....but she's a bit late, don't you think?
Fonda says that her trip to the gun site some 33 years ago was a "betrayal" of the U.S. military, its soldiers and "the country that gave me privilege." She calls the picture of her sitting on the enemy gun barrel the largest lapse of judgment she can imagine. Really. So what about the whole decision to visit North Vietnam in the first place? She won't apologize for that. No, Hanoi Jane will only apologize for posing for pictures with enemy weaponry. She won't apologize for being photographed with American POWs, nor will she apologize for going on Radio Hanoi and being a propaganda mouthpiece for the Viet Cong.
Jane Fonda gave aid and comfort to the enemy of the United States during a time of war. We used to call that treason, and there are people sitting in prison for it. Somehow, Jane Fonda got away with it...and now she wants us all to relieve her of her guilty conscience.

Evidently she is feeling a little guilty these days. Some of us do dumb things at that age, she commits treason.
To: NotchJohnson
Nothing can change what she did. NOTHING. Let her take her guilt to the grave, where she can mingle with the brave guys of Viet Nam who are already there.

Going to a nation that's at war with your homeland and pronouncing your support for commie butchers is teason and a crime against humanity.
I hope Hanoi Janie burns in hell.

It's good that she realizes the error of her ways. However, Thag will still not see any of her movies, buy any product she recommends, or have anything else to do with her. Thag remains skeptical.

I don't think she feels guilty. I think she feels she made a public relations mistake. Otherwise she would repent her other bad behavior in Vietnam.
She just doesn't like being called Hanoi Jane.
Too bad, Hanoi Jane.

It is not enough for Hanoi Jane to say, finally, that she's "sorry". Hanoi Jane and all the other traitors contributed to the deaths of countliess Americans by giving aide and comfort to the enemy. If she reall means to say she's sorry, she has to start making amends.

Hanoi Jane didn't say she was sorry:
"She won't apologize for that. No, Hanoi Jane will only apologize for posing for pictures with enemy weaponry. She won't apologize for being photographed with American POWs, nor will she apologize for going on Radio Hanoi and being a propaganda mouthpiece for the Viet Cong."

Wasn't there some retired military person circulating via the net a story that Hanoi Jane was passed a written message from a POW? She turned the message over to the North Vietnamese captors who beat the POW senseless. I remember receiving that email at least twice.

I believe she has a movie coming out soon, co-starring with J-Lo.
This could be the beginning of a wave of publicity rounds to get people's attention focused on her and the new movie. A partial apology may be her way of trying to get people to forgive her, somewhat, and gain a wider audience for the movie.
I'm not buying into her apology or any of her movies.

She apologized for this because there is material and widely publicized evidence of that event. She is NOT able to deny that it took place or to deny the virtual and patently obvious slap in the face that the photo represents for the US Military and the American people generally. It's her and she's in that photo. No denying that, no how. Other things she will continue to fade on. Not this! That makes her as much and more of a jerk now as she was when she did these things. It was almost better when she was in the obscurity of 'former' celebrity and great-lady wannabe as the wife of Captain Outrageous. A failure of a human being no matter how you cut it.

I don't think it'll take that long. Never has a group been shown to be so explicitly wrong about events so quickly. Inevitably some of the DU type thinkers will try very hard to revise history just as many communist apologists endlessly attempt to rewrite the bloody history of communism.
Its just another manifestation of the let's pretend approach on life so common among the boomer generation of wannabe hippie leftists.

While I know about Janes treason I'm a bit too young to know how popular she was within this time period. Was she an enormous Hollywood star at this time? If you were to compare her with one of todays hammerheads from Hollywood who would she compare her with? Would this be akin to say a Julia Roberts going to Iraq for a group hug with the terrorists or some B list actress?
( I'm only using Julia as an example, I have no idea her politics. She is a big box office draw - my only reason for using her)

She will get no forgiveness from me. I hope the maggots that are stupid enough to one day eat her rotting, putrid corpse die a slow death of food poisoning.
A favorite cadence from years past;
I saw Jane Fonda in Beverly Hills
A razor sharp Gerber makes an overkill
I slipped up the stairs in the middle of the night
Reached around the corner and flipped on the light
I unsheathed my Gerber with a big 'ol grin
AND I SPLIT THAT B#$%^ FROM HER BELLY TO HER CHIN
There's nothing in the world that I'd rather see
THAN A COMMUNIST B#$%^ IN MISERY
Pretty much sums in up for me, although that type of death would be way to easy for a person as treacherous as she.
To: warsaw44
Definitely not as popular as Julia Roberts. Maybe on a par with Gweneth Paltrow.
To: aculeus
She rode the dragon of anti-war activism when it was risk-free. Now it isn't. Her whole life was pretty much to be the reflection of whoever she was with. She even did the Indian "chop" yell when she was with Turner and attended the Braves ball game. This was said to be "highly offensive" to the American Native.
As far as the group sex, two women and Roger, she could not even bring herself to say whether she liked it or hated it. No real thought there.

Jane is just now beginning to realize what most of us knew when she did it. She was a treasonous traitor and deserved to be barred from reentry to the US or picked up at the airport and indicted.
My husband was an army helicopter at the time, and we despise her to this day.
