Senate Dems Offer 'Personal Constitution' (DSCC, Sen. Robert 'SHEETS' Byrd )

WASHINGTON - Download your "exclusive personal Constitution." And while you're at it, how about a few bucks for Senate Democrats.

That is the thrust of an appeal from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, issued Thursday under the name of Sen. Robert C. Byrd (news, bio, voting record).

"I carry a pocket-sized edition of the Constitution with me every where I go, whether I'm back home in West Virginia or speaking out on the Senate floor," it says. "Now you can, too. You can download and print the DSCC's exclusive personal Constitution."

When printed, it runs eight pages. Each bears the campaign organization's logo as well as its name and Web site in a type size larger than historic text's.

Byrd's appeal accuses Republicans of threatening to "undermine the system of checks and balances described in the Constitution and the fundamental rights we hold dear" by changing the rules governing confirmation of judges.

"The best way to defend the Constitution is to elect more Democrats to the United States Senate," he said, before adding a postscript.

"If you care about defending the Constitution, please help the DSCC win in 2006 by making a generous contribution today."

Currently, it takes 60 votes to end debate on either a nomination or legislation, a provision embedded in the rules that gives the minority the ability to filibuster. Minority Democrats used that right during President Bush's first term to block confirmation of several nominees to appeals courts.

Republicans, who gained four Senate seats in last year's elections and now hold 55, have threatened to change that rule by majority vote if Democrats persist.

The GOP senatorial committee swiftly responded with a point-by-point rebuttal of Byrd's claims. In 1977, Byrd broke a filibuster using a simple majority of senators, it added.

The West Virginian, who was majority leader at the time, said in a recent floor speech that and other similar claims by Republicans were "dead wrong."

I have no interest in Byrd's personal constitution. How many times a day he goes is his business:)

I bet HIS Constitution book that is on sale DOES say it takes 60 votes for a judicial nominee to be voted in!!!

Unless the democrats are in power, then it is a simple majority---

It says it right there, in the little book, I am so sure!

Notice how deviously the article is written to give the impression that the Republican plans to end judicial filibusters are somehow against the Constitution. They are careful to say "the rules" and don't mention the Constitution in the that one sentence, but the entire rest of the article is all about the Constitution. A typically dirty trick from the rat press allies of the Dirty Rats.

Weren't there some amendments between the 12th and 16th? I don't see them in Sheets' version.

Hahahahahaha! You know, years ago I use to let Orwellian doublespeaking Dimmies get to me. But slowly, I realized the rise in blood pressure just isn't worth it, and eventually I learned how to laugh when they start with that "night is day", "bad is good", "all hail big brother" silliness. "Distingished" Senator from West Virginia: your closet is full of sheets...

Robert C. Byrd has his own version no doubt.

Article 1. "I vow never to fight with a Negro by my side.Rather I die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt and never rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, the blackest specimen from the wilds."

This Byrd quote from a Michelle Malkin column.Link

The Democrats call this bigoted old fool"the conscience of the Senate".

What a dispicable bunch.
